Film Review: Maruthi Nagar Police Station

The film,  directed by Dayal Padmanabhan, dropped on Aha ott platform on May 19th.

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar plays a cop whose boyfriend ( Mahat in a cameo) gets killed by a gang of Naga, in cahoots with another cop, Gurunathan ( Amit Bhargav). Now,  she along with her 3 friends, who grew up together in an orphanage, seek to avenge the death. They plan to kill Naga and Gurunath, but the duo are killed by someone else instead.

Into the scenario walks in another cop (Aarav Kizar) who is investigating the deaths. Who is the real killer and what was his motive? Does the cop find out the sinister plot of the four friends?

The whodunit investigative thriller, starts up slowly. Bouts of humor are introduced via a cop, which slow down the proceedings even more. Dialogues and scenes slowly played out test patience a bit.

But as the narrative unfolds, the movie picks up and how! The entry of Aarav adds to the suspense and the mystery deepens and until  each layer unfolds.

The performances of Varalaxmi and Aarav are top notch. Both actors steal the show with their nuanced expressions and measured body language, carrying the film on their shoulders.

Santhosh Prathap adds with his presence while Amit Bhargav plays the guilty cop with a veneer of finesse, with just the right dose of expressions and body language.

The bgm is just right for the thriller and the camerawork is good.  Though at times the film feels like an 80's film,  it pulls through nicely as the mystery unravels.

Worth a watch.  Streaming now on Aha.
