Movie Review : Pechi
Five youngsters enter a forest for an adventure trek with their local guide Mari (Bala Saravanan).
There they disregard the guide's advice and wander into prohibited areas which unleashes the spirit of Pechi.
Who is she? What happens to the group of trekkers?
The cinematography of the movie with its color palette bringing out the beauty and mystery of the jungle and mountain areas the film is shot in.
The Sound department too deserves kudos in the way the sound is tempered down in tone and tenor giving a Hollywoodian, classy feel and adding to the realism of the genre. Many other films these days especiallg in this genre, with thier high decibel dialogues and over the top BGM sounds, could take a leaf out off this book.
The art department too, impresses in the design of the horror elements and together with the camera team, have added to the technical slickness of the film.
The backstory of Pechi is well detailed and narrated for lovers of the genre.
The youth who enter the forest who defy the guide, have their characteristics well drawn out; their dialogues display their attitude and arrogancr and the well written dialogues are crisp and to the point. Bala Saravanan impresses with a measured performance in a serious role unlike his usual comedy ones.
The jump scares and vfx are well executed adding to the thrills and suspense. The crisp runtime is another support to the film. The film wastes no time in undue romance or detailed backstories and sticks to the genre. The technical finesse of the art, sound and camera teams is another big plus adding to the viewing experience.
Watch out for a twist at the climax.
