Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies' magnum opus, and director Mani Ratnam's dream project, PS 1 aka Ponniyin Selvan 1, released in theatres in several languages on September 30th. The film is based Kalki's famed novel Ponniyin Selvan. The story is set during the Chola period and revolves around events in the lives of Sundara Chola ( Prakash Raj) and his children, the three siblings, Aaditha Karikalan (Chiyaan Vikram), Kundavai ( Trisha) and the crown prince Arunmozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi) who later becomes the famed Raja Raja Chozhan. There are forces, manipulated by the beautiful but  vengeful Nandini (Aishwarya Rai), the former love of Aditha Karikalan, who want to usurp the throne and wreak havoc in the kingdom. The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr M.K. Stalin in his inaugural address at the “CII Dakshin 2022 – South India Media & Entertainment Summit” organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Southern Region said, “We remain committed to supporting the media and film entertainment industry. We further assure the cinema industry the Government will provide the necessary infrastructure needed for the growth of the industry”. “In the past 11 months of being the Chief Minister, the Government has controlled to a large extent COVID-19 allowing more and more people to enjoy movies in theatres. The economy is now improving and is heartening to witness lakhs of members from the media industry are being employed once again”, he added.  PS-1 is the first part of a two-part multilingual film based on Kalki’s classic Tamil novel “Ponniyin Selvan" directed by Mani Ratnam and jointly produced by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies. The story is set in the 10th century during a tumultuous time in the Chola Empire when the power struggle between different branches of the ruling family caused violent rifts between the potential successors to the reigning emperor. It is adventure story where brave soldiers, cunning spies and evil schemers all try to win the empire for themselves. A civil war becomes imminent until the scores can be settled.  All this political and military turmoil leads to the Cholas becoming the most prosperous and powerful empire in the continent and one of the most successful and long reigning in history. PS-1 marks the beginning of the Golden Era. PS-1 is set to come on the big screens on September 30th, 2022.

 By Rinku Gupta After a theatrical release in March 2021, hero THARUN KUMAR's award winning movie Thaen, dropped recently on Sony Liv.  Ever since the OTT release, which has given the film exposure to pan- Indian and global audiences, Tharun's phone hasnt stopped ringing.  Despite the Covid pandemic, the film, directed by Ganesh Vinayakan,  went on to not only participate in more than 45 Film Festivals, but has won several awards as well.  In a chat with Tharun Kumar we find out more about the journey...
