Film Review: Kodai

Image
Director Raajaselvam's Kodai starring Singamuthu's son Karthick Singa, hit theatres on Feb 10th. The film is set in the Kodai hills where a youth (Karthick ) falls in love with a girl (Anaya). He spends most of the screen time wooing her in different ways, some of which are supposed to be entertaining due to the presence of several comedians like Singamuthu, Robot Shankar and others.   In the midst of all this,  comes a villain with a scam (AM Rathnam) who is cheating people of their money. What happens when the hero inadvertantly gets involved into his scheme? The movie seems to take you back to the 80's in its style, art direction and making and the story doesnt really engage. The dialogues hardly create any impact. However, the backdrops are colorful and the hilly areas look lush and are pleasant to watch.  Though the lead cast looks good and have tried to give their best though let down by writing that could have been better.  Cast: Karthick Singa Robo Shankar Anaya M.

Film Review: Vasantha Mullai

Image
Ramanan Purushottama's directorial Vasantha Mullai starring Bobby Simha and Kashmira Pardeshi hit theatres on Feb 10th. Rudra is an overworked IT exec who gets blackouts.  He is advised rest and so with his wife Nila ( Kashmira) he sets off on a vacation to the hills. There a series of strange happenings take place with the couple who are accosted by a stranger at a remote motel and have to run for their lives. Do they ever get out of the danger on their heels? The action thriller has an unusual story and screenplay, with a message at its core relating to health, which is laudable. Bobby Simha with his action packed performance makes his mark.  Kashmira is effective as the damsel in distress.  Arya's cameo lifts the film and the scenes  following his appearance. Sarath Babu as the doctor is a good choice as a calming figure, considering the storyline.  The time loop kind of situation piques your  interest and induces enough chills. The action scenes are very well choreographed
