Web Series Review:Thalaimai Seyalagam

The story begins in Dhanbad where a  local dreaded villain Sourav Tiwari is killed by a mysterious woman,  who was being tortured by him.  Who is she?

V Arunachalam ( Kishore) is the TN CM for the 3 rd time.  He is under investigation for corruption. Amudha ( Ramya Nambeesan) is his daughter who dreams of becoming CM one day,  as does her sister's husband Hariharan ( Niroop Nandakumar) as well.

Kotravai (  Sriya Reddy) is a journalist and political advisor,  close to him.  Her closeness is despised by her daughter Maya. One day Durga ( Kani Kusruti) an  old associate appears at her doorstep and asks her to use her CM contact to get a shipment out of the port and threatens her with dire cosequences when she is refused.

Manikandan DCP ( Bharath) is called to imvestigate a murder of  Gowthaman a cop working as undercover.

The political drama which swings between Jharkhand, TN and Delhi politics. The nexus between politicos and criminals is mastered in a thrilling manner with a screenplay that is rivetting and racy.

A plethora of characters keep emerging but they are introduced in an easy to recall manner, without confusion.

The non -linear narration keeps the viewer attentive and glued to the screen.

The performances of Kishore stands out as he transforms himself effortlessly into the role of the aged CM. Ramya Nambeesan leaves a mark with her fiery performance of a woman desperate to get to chair and prove her mettle as heir apparent. Sriya Reddy stands out and  impresses with  mature and nuanced performance,  as the astute, loyal political advisor and leaves a lasting impression. Hope to see more of her on screen in meaty roles.

The flip side is the gruesome violence  in several scenes comprising of  vehement chopping body parts and flying heads.

Also some may find the portions between Kishore and his family scenes a tad slow.

Overall , a gripping political drama with excellent performances of a superb cast, an interesting storyline, rivetting screenplay, contemporary making,  well- mounted grand, slickly made series.

Rating 3.5 /5
