Film Review : Soppana Sundari

The Aishwarya Rajesh starrer Soppana Sundari, a comedy directed by CS Charles, hits screens on April 14th.

The story revolves around 3 siblings  (Aishwarya Rajesh, Karunakaran, Lakshmipriya Chandramouli) whose lives change when one of them wins a new car as a prize from a jewellery store. This leads to an intra-family fight between the sisters and their brother, who want the car for their own benefits. What happens when the family fight gets out of hand and a ' murder' takes place? In this race to win the prize, how far will the siblings go? Who succeeds in the end?

The film is a racy, feel good comedy with Aishwarya Rajesh leading the pack with a superb, nuanced performance. It's rare to see the talented actor in a full fledged comedy film and this is, one of those moments where she yet again steals the show.

She is ably aided in this comedy by Karunakaran, Mime Gopi, Deepa, Sunil Reddy, Sha Ra and Laxmipriya, who all add to film with their performances and presence.

The film keeps you entertained with a series of twists coming at every turn and there is never a dull moment on screen.

The messaging is also present, about the importance of family unity and the detrimental effects of greed and distrust, but  within a family  but all told without any preaching.

On the flip side, there are scenes like when the family thinks it's ok to sell  a bedridden, old man's organs , which is supposed to be part of the comedy,  but seems more concerning than comic. Also, whether an organisation is allowed to give prizes to staff and their family, is a query that comes to mind.

Overall, with its fast moving screenplay,  good performances, large doses of humor and an interesting storyline, Soppana Sundari is an engaging family entertainer.
