Movie Review : Virundhu
Perly ( Nikki Galrani) finds her life spinning out of control when her father, businnessman John Abraham ( Mukesh) is killed in a car accident and soon after her mother, Elisabeth, too dies in a similar accident. When her life too is in danger, her dad's close friend Bala ( Baiju Santosh)takes her to a safe place.
But when danger is still close on her heels, she finds refuge in the remotely located hillside home of a stanger ( Arjun Sarja).
Who is this stranger? Who is behind the deaths of her parents? Does Perly discover the truth and get justice for her parents?
The film, (originally in Malayalam, titled Virunnu), is a fast, action thriller and as such keeps the viewer glued to the screen.
It takes time for the viewer to grasp how the various characters are linked, but that is also the way that suspense is maintained. The film leads up to a gripping interval block and thereafter the story unravels as pieces of the puzzle are put together.
Arjun Sarja is superb in his role and as usual excels in the action blocks as well. His panache filled presence adds value to the film and he keeps the suspense going all through. For Nikki Galrani it's a different role, (sans any trace of the usual romance) and even action scenes in several places and the actor shines in a meaty role, with a credible performance.
The camerawork is superb, especially capturing the pictoresque hillsides and locations too are all well chosen, adding to the mystery in the story. The action department too deserves kudos.
On the flip side, the story deviates with unnecessary songs and a comedy track in the beginning. The pre- climax song too seems to go on forever and the climax though an unexpected twist, seems shot in a cramped space and a tad rushed.
However, the film has a message which is clearly enunciates via the climax, Arjun's climax scenes and end credits.
Overall, an engaging action thriller with a sound message, racy screenplay, good casting and solid performances. An thrilling, action feast by director Kannan Thamarakkulam.
