Movie Review : Good Bad Ugly
Red Dragon aka AK ( Ajith Kumar) is a dreaded don. But at the birth of his son Vihaan (Karthikeya dev) his wife Ramya (Trisha) tells him to touch the baby only after he gives up his life is crime.
So AK surrenders to the cops and only after 17 years returns from a Mumbai jail, to Spain, to meet his wife and be with his son on his 18th birthday.
But to his utter dismay, he finds that his son is falsely implicated in a drug case and is jailed. Who is behind all this? What does AK have to do to get his son back? After giving up a life of crime, is he forced to return to it to save his son?
GBU from the word go, is an ode to Ajith Kumar, the star, the charismatic human being and his legendary body of work that has enthralled loyal fans and audiences from the beginning of his career. And director Adhik Ravichandran leaves no stone unturned to take audiences on a magical journey and deliver an enthralling, colorful, loud, mass commercial action entertainer.
Ajith Kumar looks dapper, dashing and full of swag in every scene. Every line he utters, every expression he gives, is a whistle worthy delight to watch. What's more, it looks like the star himself, is enjoying himself on screen and that roller-coaster ride of emotions, action and just pure fun, rubs off on the viewer, who knows better than to search for logic and just sits back to enjoy the magic on screen.
A plethora of actors impress, right from Kaathikeya Dev ( who delivers a solid act as the son), Trisha ( who seems to be getting younger by the day), a delightful Simran in a cameo, Priya Prakash Varrier ( watch out for her song) ,Prabhu, Raghu Ram ( Roadies fame) Sunil Kumar, Rahul Dev, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley and Prasanna. But its the villain Arjun Das, who bags a meaty dual role, and does total justice to Adhik's vision, playing out Johny and Jammy to perfection, in a most entertaining manner, in a role vastly different from anything he's done before. ( watch out for AK's compliment to the actor!)
Ajith's mass intro scene, the unnumerable action blocks on grand sets, from boathouses, and grand buildings to mass action on the roads of Spain, Ajith Kumar carries it all off with his usual panache and oodles of swag. The actor looks most handsome in every scene, captured wonderfully by some excellent camerawork. The detailed costume design for every character, to high productiom values and detailing on every prop, location and setting adds to rich feel of the film. Ajith's distinctly stylish and flamboyant wardrobe styling deserves special mention.
GV Prakash's bgm adds value while the plethora of retro songs, and references to Ajith's older films, adds a distinctly enjoyable flavour. There is violence but sans gore.
Watch out for the end credits behind-the-scenes making video clips of the movie!
Overall an over-the-top, roller- coaster ride of a fun, mass commercial entertainer, for both fans and family audiences.
