Ryan Gosling: Project Hail Mary is about the sun dying, but it’s also deeply hopeful

The upcoming film adaptation of Project Hail Mary promises more than a high-stakes space survival story. At its core, the film explores optimism, collaboration, and the idea that humanity can overcome even the most impossible challenges. Actor Ryan Gosling, who was approached for this film when the book was in manuscript stage, describes the story with his trademark simplicity. “Project Hail Mary is about the sun dying, but it’s also deeply hopeful. It supports the idea that we’re capable of solving impossible problems, that if we don’t give up, miracles are possible.” While the premise may suggest a traditional lone-hero survival narrative, the film’s emotional centre lies elsewhere. The story ultimately centers on partnership and the realization that saving the world is not a solo mission. “My first thought was I needed to get a better producer than me involved, because this was seemingly impossible,” Gosling says. “I needed the best.” His first call was to producer Amy Pascal,...

Kali ( Kalaiyarasan) and Anasuya ( Deepa Bala) have a love marriage  and now she is pregnant. As per family custom, they travel to a remote forest temple to pray to a goddess.  After the rituals, the family returns while the couple are set to travel back on Kali's bike. But just as they are about to do so, something happens which changes Kali's life forever. What happens to the couple? Who are the perpetrators and why did they do what they did?  The film builds up suspense bit by bit, thanks to a measured screenplay, that takes you through the lives of the young couple and those of the family,  neighbours and friends. Just as your wondering out may go a certain way,  a twist appears to keep you guessing again. The film gives a beautiful slice of life,  realistic feel, with dialogues steeped in the local dialect, characters that are well written all building up a slow emotional  connect to these people.  But the climax comes as a shock and n...

Movie Review : Vengeance

Image
Vengeance is based on what the the title implies. A young woman Veni ( Abarnathi) commits a crime as a teen to further her ambitions to mate it big in life.  And sure enough, as an adult, she educates herself and becomes a collector in a town.   In her position of power she is able to mamupulate people, help whom she likes and fulfil her dreams of control and climbing up the political ladder one step at a time.  But at what cost to herself? Abarnathi has delivered a fantastic performance as Veni. At each point her expressions, subtle to the core, convey the inner workings of her mind. Her body language is excellent. The way her smile lights up her face when someone praises her, display her strong love for being praised that has driven her entire life.  The political characters are many and the resulting intrigues when they are pitted against each other are gripping. The making of the film is on a solid scale and the cast is aptly chosen. But the flip side of the film...
