Movie Review : Nirangal Moondru
The film is divided into several chapters. In Chapter 1, Sree ( Dushyanth) loves his school mate Parvathi ( Ammu Abhirami) who is the daughter of his class teacher Vasanth (Rahman). One day Parvathi is missing. Where is she? Sree thinks she has been kidnapped and is worried.
In chapter 2, Vetri ( Atharvaa) is an aspiring film director looking for his first break but still unsuccessful. One day he finds that the script he had prepared is missing and the producer whom he narrated the story to has started filming it without him. He is distraught and takes his usual drug fix.
In chapter 3, Vasanth is searching for his missing daughter. Vetri 's father, a corrupt cop Selvam (Sarathkumar) does something that shocks Vetri.
How are all these stories and characters inter-linked? What discoveries do Vetri and Sree make that are life changing? Do they find Parvathi?
The comeback film is Karthick Naren, is a hyperlink drama with a social commentary with bits about goings-on in the film industry.
Sarathkumar as Selvam does a neat job and brings his character to life in his inimitable style. The climax portions between father and son strike a chord.
For Atharva his role is a cake walk and he nails it. However, the parts of his as a junkie, hallucinating for long periods of time, somehow slow the pace of the film and could have done with ample trimming. A lot of time is spent showing him blowing smoke or in swag mode, which slows down the otherwise steady pace of the screenplay.
Dushyanth as Sree does a fine job as the worried youth, and the portions with him, his 2 friends and later Parvathi. The intetactions between Vetri and Sree are intetesting. Ammu Abhirami has a small role but an impactful one on the story. Rahman as the troubled father does a neat job but is pretty much uni- dimensional in the way he is portrayed, till the climax portions.
The film keeps the suspense factor up all through and the hyperlink points all fit in neatly at the end. But the film leaves you with a feeling that with crisper editing, more natural sounding dialogues and a bit more detailing, the film could have been a lot more engaging
