Movie Review : Bad Girl

Ramya ( Anjali Sivaraman) has a tumultous life beset by doubts and queries about love and life as she enters her teens, a feature that continues right till college and later in life. With multiple relationships over the years,  with none really lasting, leaving her yearning for love, she is well into her thirties, when a ray of realisation begins to dawn.

How she navigates tbrough relationships with her parents,  family, friends and boyfriends, and her perception and self  growth is what we see unfolding on screen.

Does she finally find the elusive ' love' she's looking for?

Anjali Sivaraman brings Ramya to life quite perfectly, and her performance is the mainstay of the film.  Shanripriya as her mother,  who has to deal with tough situations as a teacher and parent, wife and daughter-in-law, gives another good performance. Hridhu Haroon and Teejay Arunasalam are among others who create an impact with their presence.

As the film navigates through Ramya's live as seen from her point of view, we get a peek into her world where traditions clash with the contemporary, with Ramya making her own choices rebelliously, when she is old  enough to and also living through the consequences.

The lighting and frames are not always perfect and the dialogue delivery is not always coherent at times.  But director Varsha manages to get the point across with the actors' performances.

There are dialogues which seem to paint men in a certain light which many may find objectionable and one-sided.  Ramya's character seems to come off as a tad self obsessed and apart from concentrating on  relationships and her tumultous feelings the film doesnt seem to touch upon her professional life and responsibilities.

Overall Bad Girl, is a point of view film,  with an attempt to showcase a young girl's views and conflicts as she journeys through life in the contemporary world.
