Movie Review: Nanban Oruvan Vandha Piragu
Anand ( Ananth) goes through school and college with his group of friends brightening up his life. He falls in love with Kanamma (Bhavani Sre).
Anand decides to open an event management company along with his friends. They name it NOVP Events. But the company doesnt succeed even after a year. Due to its failure, the friends group gets scattered, with each one going for better job prospects to support their families. But Anand is unable find his dream job and is still unsure of his future.
Anand's father ( kumaravel) under heavy debt, is worried about his son's future as he is unsuccessful at every job he tries
One day, he decides to mortgage his house and send his son to Singapore. There Anand tries to restart work on his dream App and work as a waiter and lives in a mens hostel.
But there too he gets depressed when his girlfriend Kanamma gets engaged to her childhood buddy.
He is now totally down and out.. what happens next?
The film is visually appealing as it takes you into the journey of a group of friends, highlighting the importance of friendship and family.
The dilemma of youth when choosing a career and their frustration when success doesnt quite happen is well brought out.
The bonding between friends is well brought out with all the youngsters doing a good job. But strangely enough, the two women amongst the friends hardly have any dialogues in the film.
Ananth as the hero manages to impress with a measured performance, carrying well the enmotional scenes in the second half. Mirchi Vijay could have been given a lengthier role. Bhavani Sre as the heroine shines but doesnt have much to do. The supporting cast members too are aptly chosen for the most part.
The bgm is overbearing in many places. Films with school or college goers usually get made with loud music, general shouting and cheering all around to showcase the boisterous joys of being young and Novp follows the same template. The emotional bonding comes at a much later stage, in the second half, which lends depth to the film.
However, several scenes seem to stretch a tad too long, and could do with trimming. The film tries to convey a message or two that seem well intentioned, but in such a long drawn out manner that it requires patience to stay invested in the story. The postitvity towards the climax makes up for the lags to some extent.
