Movie Review : Yellow
A young girl Aadhirai ( Poornima Ravi) has to forego her dreams of higher studies and a hi paying job due to her father's ( Delhi Ganesh) ill health. She loses her long standing boyfriend Santhosh ( Sai Prasanna) too, as he finds their shared goals are not longer the same.
Staggering under the weight of a mundane bank job and stress of looking after family responsibilities, she one day, on a whim, takes off on a trip to Kerala, to find her childhood friends and relatives and connect with her beautiful childhood days there.
But once there, she is in for a surprise. Life takes a turn when she meets Jenny ( Namita Radhakrishnan) and Sai ( Vaibhav Murugesan).
Does she finds what she is looking for? Does she meet all the people she is looking for? What lies in store for her? Does she find the peace she is looking for?
The film is a story about people finding themselves, about the pressures of life that burden an individual, and the need to break free of them in order to find peace.
Poornima Ravi as the lead has given a noteworthy performance, displaying the various phases of her life, as the innocent girl with dreams of a bright future, later broken hearted, struggling with a mechanical life without goals and later the discovering the joy of finding herself. In each phase, the actor shines in her portrayal with a natural touch, in a way that is easy to relate to.
Both the heroes, Sai Prasanna and Vaibhav Murugesan have given realistic performances, elevating the film. The father daughter scenes are warm and beautiful to watch. Every friendship and relatiinship has been portrayed with a natural ease on screen, making for interesting viewing.
The visuals of the film in the Kerala portion are a highlight. The songs are pleasant and make for good viewing.
But though the film seeks to travel with Aadirai on her personal journey and finding herself, the road to that goal seems a tad long winded and peppered with lags song along the way, making it more like a travelogue. The tautness with which it began doesnt continue into the second half.
However, overall the film makes for pleasant viewing, with natural performances, breathtaking visuals, interesting screenplay and story.
