Movie Review: Anomie
Rating 3/5
Zaara Philip ( Bhavana) is a forensic expert. She loves her younger brother Zian who is has mental health issues and is prone to suicide attempts after the death of their parents. She is devoted to ensuring he has a good life.
One day he goes missing and she is extremely distraught. He was last seen at pet shop owner Salman's shop. Later he is found dead in a jungle. The case is investigated by a senior
cop Ghibran (Rahman) who dismisses it as a suicide
But when similar deaths are found and deeply investigated by Zaara, she gets things moving and the cops are forced to act on the basis of her findings which clearly point at murders.
What happens next? Who is the killer? What is the motive? Is the culprit caught?
Bhavana excels in the lead role, delivering a natural and measured performance, as the loving sister and dutiful officer bent upon delivering justice to the victims. Bhavana 's body language and expressions add to the credibility of her act.
Rahman is excellent as usual while the villains deliver chilling performances.
The camerawork, lighting and color palette add to the mystery and pathos of the film, and create the right atmosphere. The bgm seems a tad loud and jarring at many places but overall fits into the scheme of things.
The suspense is held up till the end. The second half moves at a faster pace than the slower first half (which could have been crisper).
The premise of the criminals shown seems a novel attempt and is quite chilling.
Anomie, is full of surprises, with good making, solid performances, a good cast, solid action blocks, suspense, intrigue and thrills, making for a solid investigative crime thriller.
