Movie Review : Bloody Beggar
Bloody Beggar is Kavin's next, a dark comedy, after the hit film Dada.
A beggar ( Kavin) ekes out a living pretending to be disabled and takes whatever chances he can get to make some money. His companion is a young child, who is the only person he seems to care about to some extent.
One day, the beggar lands up in a huge palace like mansion and decides to go inside to explore. As luck would have it, he is discovered by the inmates who propose to use him for a nefarious plan to cheat the family of hundreds of crores, by naming the beggar ( after a makeover) as the real heir to the property.
Though he agrees, the beggar soon discovers that things are not what they seem. Before he knows it, he lands from the frying pan into the fire and ends up fighting for his life in a bizarre series of events.
What happens to next? Does he survive?
The film with its different storyline, told in an an engaging manner, does capture your attention from the word go. Kavin as the beggar has done a brilliant job and later in his makover avatar, continues to impress with his expressions and body language. An actor who seems to love to expetiment, Kavin has outdine himseld by choosing such a challenging role and pulling it off successfully. He , along with Redin Kingsley are a solid reason to watch the film. Their antics are most engaging though its time perhaps that Kingsley is not made to keep shouting dialogues in almost every film.
There is a large ensemble cast of talented actors who by and large keep you entertained, with twists adding to the entertainment factor.
But after a while things seems repetitive with almost every character upto similar murderous intetions in never ending chases. For several scenes the humor lands but soon things get too grusome to be entertaining.
The film doesnt really let things sink in, with its constantly moving characters.
The scenes that leave an impact and connect are the emotional scenes with Kavin and his wife, his childhood and the ones with the little boy, especially at the climax.
The art direction department deserves kudos as do make-up and costume as well as camera, music and sound design.
An engaging film for the most part, with a novel plot, good performances with Kavin's outstanding act stealing the show, Bloody Beggar lands as a commendable attempt, shining esoecially in the emotional scenes.
