Movie Review : Shakthi Thirumagan

Kittu ( Vijay Antony) is a political mediator in the government secretariat. With his vast contacts he is a key person who helps a lot of people, ranging from the poor to the rich and powerful, all for a fee.

But due to a series of circumstances, he comes in the cross hairs of a powerful Political advisor Abhyankar ( Sunil Kriplani) who has reach right up to New Delhi. That's when things begin to go downhill, as Abhyankar is now bent on finishing him.

Does Kittu manage to save himself ? Who is Abhyankar and what is the secret  Kittu harbours against him? What is Kittu's real motive behind everything he does?

The film is a racy and gripping neo political drama with a plethora of twists that keep you guessing. Director Arun Prabhu not only takes you into the chaotic world of a mediator in governrment circle ls via Kittu, but also brings it to life with a series of situations and incidents involving people from all strata, from the common man to political and industrial bigwigs and beaurocrats in ways that seem like he has researched well into the subject.

Superb  bgm ( by Vijay Antony), locations aptly chosen to lend authenticity to the situations as well as impressive casting, are highlights.

Bringing back Sunil Kriplani aka Kadhal Oviyam fame Kannan, to the screen as Abhyankar serves the film well. The actor delivers a top notch performance as the damgerous , ruthless villain with effortless credibility. Cell Murugan has been given a lengthy role and delivers to perfection. Vagai Chandrasekar too leaves an impact with his quiet, measured performance.

Trupti Ravindra and Riya Jithu shine in their roles. Vijay Antony delivers a noteworthy performance as the brooding, meticulous and razor sharp mediator to perfection with a mature and superbly played out performance.

The rest of the supporting cast are aptly chosen.

There are lacunae like too many characters introduced too fast, which make it tough to connect with them. In many places the dialogues are unclear due to speed of deliver, and unfamiliar characters and situations.

The portions of Kittu's childhood are beautifully shot  as is the montage song between Kittu and his Venbu.

Contemporary issues, dealing with politicos, beaurocrats and media members both regional and national have been touched upon, making for interesting viewing.  The good production values add to the viewing experience.

Overall, with an intriguing plot, ample thrills and suspense and a racy, engaging screenplay , Shakthi Thirumagan makes for a good watch.
