Movie review : Kumki 2

Kumki 2 , the much awaited movie from Prabhu Solomon has hit screens.

The story revolves around a deep bond that develops between a lonely lad Bhumi (child actor Roshan) who lives in the hills,  with an abandoned baby elephant whom he befriends and names Nila.
The bond lasts even when the inseparable duo grow up. But tragedy hits when his greedy mother sells off Nila for a fat sum, without his knowledge.
A heartbroken Bhumi sets out to search for Nila, leading him down a dangerous path and life threatening situations.
Do the duo unite? What has happened to Nila in the interim and what dangers do the duo face?

Prabhu Solomon deserves kudos for attempting this kind of unusual subject  filming in tough  breathtaking terrain with ace cameraman Sukumar, and capturing moments and visuals that remain etched in the mind.
Touching scenes between the young elepahant and a terrific child actor Roshan are rousing and make you emotional. Their bond is superbly conveyed via songs and visuals and the little things Bhumi does for his buddy. Roshan with his innocent charm delivers an extrairdinary performance.

The later sequences of Bhumi played by Mathi are outstanding as well. The forest episodes are impressive, suspsenseful and rivetting as is the terrific climax.

Arjun Das  makes his presence felt in a noteworthy manner yet again while Shruti Rao and Andrews ( Bhumi's friend) shine in their roles.

Filming with animals and weaving them into a story, is not easy yet  Prabhu Solomon pulls it off seemingly effortlessly and in a most engaging manner in ways that make you actually feel for Nila aka Veera and Bhumi.

Nivas K Prasanna excels with his bgm and tracks and is a pillar of the film along with Sukumar's camerawork and the ace performances of all the actors  including the befittingly chosen supporting actors.

Few scenes, ( without mentioning spoilers) such as the planned fate of Nila by the baddies, seem unpalatable and tough to watch. Mathi's highly trusting and gullible nature seems a tad difficult to swallow in the latter half.

Overall, Kumki 2, engaging, suspenseful, with fantastic visuals and a superb performances makes for a fantastic watch.
