Movie Review : Gatta Kusthi 2

Gatta Kusthi 2 takes the story of part 1 to the next level. Veera ( Vishnu Vishal) is happily married to his wrestler wife, Keerthy (Aishwarya Lekshmi) and the duo have a girl child, Mathi Malar ( Baby Zara).

Veera supports Keerthy's professional life by being a stay at home dad aka house husband. His daughter dotes on him and the neighbourhood wives are all his buddies, as he shares cooking, household tips and aerobic classes with them.

Things are going well but the couple's loving bond is shaken when a jealous wrestling coach (Tarak Ponnappa) manipulates Veera in a way that jeopardises their marriage, soon landing them in the family court, as a furious Keerthy wants a divorce.
Veera is broken- hearted  and Mathi Malar is distraught as she doesnt want to leave her dad, and wants the parents to unite.

What has caused this rift? Can the duo's families reunite them somehow? Do Keerthy  and Veera unite?

The film is an all out family entertainer, catering to young and old. The first half begins on a light-hearted note as we jump into Veera's new life. The portions of him with the neighbour ladies, their jealous husbands and his, struggles with Mathi Malar 's teachers, add to the fun. The Sambhavakkaari song is a peppy track by Sean Roldan, and is well filmed in keeping with the story as his the dad and daughter song.
The first half turns a tad serious as we get a whiff of the developing problem and get introduced to all the stakeholders.

But, just as you think that this maybe turning predictable, director Chella Ayyavu amps it up in a rip -roaring  second half when the conflict between the couple takes a serious turn. That's when all the other charcters begin to enter the fray ( Karunaas, Kaali Venkat, Munishkanth, Karunakaran, Ramya Krishnan in a cameo, Lizze Antony and more), livening up the scenes with one liners, counters and situational comedy.
The scenes with Lizzie Antony and hubby Karunas are a laugh riot, as are those with Yogi Babu and Muniskanth. Ramya Krishnan's cameo is gripping and entertaining and the lady adds immense value to the proceedings. Actor Mokshaa as Meena Miss is another highlight of the film and her scenes with the hero and Zara apart from their dance track are bound to be a hit with audiences, apart from the cookery show ( with a cameo by vj Kalyani)
Tarak Ponnappa ( Pushpa 2 villain) is aptly cast and gets his manipulative role just right. His scenes with Vishnu Vishal and Aishwarya stand out for his subtle performance as does that one scene with his wife ( Anandhi Ajay in a powerful cameo) which is impactful.

Vishnu Vishal gives his best to the role and comes out with flying colors, perfectly nuanced,  with just the right expressions, finely balancing humor, romance, a doting dad and supportive husband role with finesse. His chemistry with Aishwarya is just right,  and the duo bring a certain innocence to their performance which sits just right.

His scenes with Zara are a delight and the child actor is simply superb as the jewel in the crown for the film. Her dialogue delivery and convincing performance add authenticity to the scenario.

Aishwarya Lekshmi brings a seriousness and credibility to her role as a wrestler while at the same time getting just right the chemistry with Vishnu Vishal and hitting the right notes as a young mom torn with conflict in her life.

Sean Roldan's tracks are peppy and his bgm just right. The camerawork and making is good, the stunts and fights with wrestling at the core are well choreographed. The climax scenes are to watch out for.

The film drives home a message or two concerning marriage, bringing up children and  balancing work and modern day relationships in a changing world.

Overall Gatta Kusthi 2 is a totally hilarious, feel-good fun ride - a pucca  commercial entertainer for not  just for the family but also friends!

Rating 4/5.
