Movie Review: Love Oh Love
Love Oh Love is a youthful romantic comedy-drama that explores the different realities of modern relationships in the backdrop of today's economic pressures.
But soon he finds himself drowning in debt, resorting to heavy loans in lakhs, trying to keep up with the expensive expectations of costly gifts, outings, party bills, movie nights and the like, from Avantika.
One datmy, when the creditors land at his doorstep, injuring his upright father( KS Ravikumar) who is strongly against a life of debt, Raghuvaran starts seeing things differently and takes a stand.
With his life falling apart, costing him his job, financial stability, and even the support of his family, he throws an unexpected challenge at Avanthika: to swap their roles for 4 months and let her experience the responsibilities and pressures he has been facing.
What happens next? How does this move impact their relationship?
The story takes you into the lives of today's generation and how differently both genders view love, what the meaning of romance is for them and how unrealistic and irresponsible demands can get, putting pressures on the relationship, when one gender begins to bear the brunt.
The director also presents the older generation's viewpoints, through Radhika (Ramya) who is Avanthika's mom and Rajendra (KS Ravikumar), Raghu's dad. They bring to the fore valuable lessons on parenting, how old world values of living respectably within your means and avoiding debt, still hold true, all the more so in todays world of easy personal loans.
The viewpoints, burdens and travails of the male gender in such relationships is also brought out well, lending the film a unique angle. The female point of view on love and life is also presented. How both realise the pitfalls of certain expectations and decisions is brought out well.
The making is refreshing and the film has a youthful feel all through. The screenplay is racy and the plethora of characters adds to keeping you invested.
Selvaraghavan and Pavish's scenes together are a blast while Vanitha Vijaykumar makes her present felt in a vibrant role. KS Ravikumar is superb as the quiet, dignified dad, in another good role after Kara. Radhika steals the show in her brief appearance and seeing more of her on the big screen would be welcome.
The leads,Pavish and Nagadurga share a good screen rapport and an innocent charm when together. Pavish, with his tall and handsome presence, makes an impact and shines in the songs, inherent comedy and emotional sequences as well. He is impactful without being loud or overbearing in a role that requires a fine balance.
Nagadurga matches his energy with a vibrant performance and the film is a good Tamil debut for the Tollywood actor.
The songs by foxn duo are peppy and well choreographed. The camerawork is sound and the edits work well.
On the flip side, the climax may seem a tad rushed. The colorful and energetic credits song could have been used in the main film to advantage.
Overall, the film blends romance, humor and emotions in a refreshing mix, and while highlighting age old values, also explores gender roles, the economic impact of expectations in modern day relationships, and the meaning of Love in the modern world, making for a good youth and family entertainer.
Rating 4 /5
As the journey unfolds, the film blends romance, humour, and emotional moments while questioning conventional gender roles, financial responsibility, and the true meaning of love in today's world. Will the two rediscover each other through empathy and understanding, or will the experiment drive them further apart? That forms the heart of Love Oh Love.
