Movie Review: Pyaar Prema Kalyanam
Elan ( Elan) gives up his job in Dubai as he misses his mom's cooking and the pampering of home. His strict dad ( MS Bhasker) disapproves of his easy going attitude and insists he marry and turn more responsible.
Quite by chance Elan meets an influencer, Pavithra ( Saanve Megghana) and the duo fall in love and get married.
But thats when Elan's life undergoes an unexpected, drastic change, for Pavithra feels she can't leave her loving parents ( Radhika Sarathkumar, Kumaravel) and granddad (Senthil). So she asks Elan to move in with her family instead.
Elan agrees and in the beginning his in-laws treat him like a prince. But soon their attitude changes when he has no career and his wife bears the household expenses from her plush job. Soon he is left taking care of the household, from cooking to washing and everything in- between.
What happens when the inexperienced, oampered Elan reaches breaking point? How do his parents react to this whole scenario? Do the couple's living arrangements affect their marriage?
The film is a well mounted rom -com with sound production values and a solid cast, with both factors elevating the film.
Elan turns hero after directing Star, and does a good job of it as the pampered youth who achieves a sense of responsibility. He carries the comedy portions well and is impactful in the emotional scenes in the latter half as well.
Saanve Megghana in her next outing after Kudumbasthan, shines in her role, looks good in every frame, delivering a fine performance as daughter, inffluencer and wife, reflecting the turmoils of modern day life faced by the young generation.
Radhika Sarathkumar is terrific as Elan's mother-in-law and it's good to see her in yet another film, elevating every film with her presence. MS Bhasker has a key role but one wishes, he had more dialogues and a larger screen time. Vereran comedian Senthil too seems under utilused and better scenes could have been written for him. Geetha, Kailasam has key scenes proving her mettle yet again.
The film address many issues surrounding love, relationships, marriage and family dynamics in the contemporary era, but does so a light-hearted yet impactful manner, driving home its viewpoints successfully, certainly giving food for thought to the viewer.
At times the film does seem stretched in places, and why Pavithra, in the latter half, finds it tough to stay with Elan's family even after his staying with hers for many months, (enough for her to accept divorce even) does not seem convincingly presented. Elan needs to slow down his dialogue delivery in places.
Overall, the film is a light-hearted, engaging, entertaining take on romance, marriage and family dynamics in the contemporary era. A clean entertainer for family audiences, now on Netflix.
