Movie Review: Veera Vanakkam
The film, mainly a flashback, narrates the life of P Krishna Pillai ( Samuthirakani) a revolutionary communist leader who fights against the injustice in society and the rights of poor labours. He is even jailed for his activities, during the early 1940s.
The story of his life and efforts in spreading his idealogy and helping poor people against the atrocities of a powerful jamindar are narrated by an old lady, who in the flashback portions was amongst the families helped by Pillai and his comrade Rairu Nambiar. This inspiring tale is narrated on the request of Mahendran ( Bharath) to make oppressed people on the present understand their own prowess to claim their rights in society.
The film with its solid cast and good production values, gives a realistic peek into past incidents that shaped society. Samuthirakani in the lead imparts credibility to his character with a solid performance. Other cast members too enhance the script with their contributions including Bharath, who performs his bit with conviction.
Well choreographed action scenes are aplenty. The art and costume departments have done well in taking the viewer back in time.
On the flip side, recurring instances of a similar nature shown in the screenplay, give off a repetitive feel from time to time, which acts as a speedbreaker.
Overall, with a solid cast and sound production values, the biographical political drama, takes you back in time and drives home its various socio-political messages.
