Movie Review : Game of Loans

Daniel ( Nivas Adithan)  is an unemployed father of a five year old, looking for a job while  his wife Janet (Ester Noronha)l is looking after the family. She is fed up with his irresoonsible ways and his online gambling addiction. One day,  2 credit recovery agents  (Abhinay Kinger and Athvik Jalandhar) enter his home and threaten him, when he is alone,  demanding repayment of his huge loan running into lakhs,  taken  from an online app.

When they find that he has no assets to repay his gambling loan, they suggest a sinister resolution that stuns Daniel completely, putting him in danger.

What is the solution suggested by the agents? Does Daniel manage to pay back his debt? What danger does he fund himself in?

The movie deals with the evils of online gambling addiction, seeking to showcase the ill effects of the malaise in society and for that, the team deserves kudos.

The entire movie takes place inside an appartment, which could be tedious to watch but the screenplay, with its interesting plot and dialogues keeps the momentum going to large extent. The visuals are easy on the eyes as is the pleasant backdrop of an upmarket apartment. However, a lot of time seems to be spent beating around the bush, so a little crisper editing would have helped

The film throws light on the consequences of online gambling and the underhand ways employed to lure people to go into debt with just a click of a button online.  But it also leaves some questions unanswered towards the climax. More clarity may have helped in better impact.

All the actors in the small cast have given impactful performances. Abhinay Kinger reurns after a very long gap, and is very effective with his dapper look, suave dialogue delivery and menacing act. Nivas, Ester and Athvik deliver credible performances. The director has kept it a no frills movie,  sticking to the main plot without commercial cinematic deviations.

Overall, an engaging watch, which drives home a contemporary social message.
