Movie Review: I Nobody
A thriller, I Nobody revolves around Rajeevan (Prithviraj) a middle class man, and his family.
One day, when he walks into a bank, he inadvertantly becomes part of a heist, taken hostage as the robbers escape with him blindfolded, along with the loot.
On the way, there is an accident. The looters die, but Rajeevan survives. That's when his ordeal intensifies, as, now he becomes a suspect in the eyes of cops, since the loot money, last seen in the car, is now missing.
This incident turnshis world upside down. Battling a failed marriage with his wife Meera (Parvathy Thiruvothu), he is now hounded by society, the media, cops and the public who think he has the money and want a part of it.
Is he able to get himself and his family out of this mess?
The film is an exciting, racy thriller which starts off as a heist but becomes bigger as the story moves forward, taking us into the world of greed, deception, social pressure, unscrupulous cops, the power of social media and the insides of a troubled couple coping with a failed marriage, caught in this web.
Prithviraj and Parvathy are stupendous in their performances, and give us a nuanced, measured and thoroughly convincing act, living their roles.
The supporting cast, of Hakkim Shahjahan as, greedy cop Anas and Ashokan as Jacob, stand out with noteworthy performances.
The film works, not only due to the thriller elements, suspense, action, constant threats and unpredictable twists from beginning till end, but also because the director takes us into the inner journeys, personal issues and emotions of the main characters as well, like Anas and Jacob. The emotional angle in the story establishes a connect to keep the audiences invested.
The film also stands out for the social commentary it showcases, on public perception, and how menacing and dangerous ordinary people can get, in the age of trial by not just media but also social media in shaping narratives.
There are several scenes that stand out in this fast moving emotional action drama.
On the flil side, Prithviraj does seem to give a similar expressions in many frames, without revealing his inner thoughts. Some situations seem contrived in places.
Overall however, I Nobody is a rivetting must watch thriller, for fans of the genre.
