Film review : Erumbu
The film revolves around a family in a village, headed by Charlie who plays the father to two kids, and who has married again. The step mom is not loving to the kids and has a baby of her own to take care of. However, the children have a loving grand mother who showers them with care.
The family is burdened with debt. As the parents leave home to toil in the fields to pay back the debt, the two kids are left at home with their grandmother. As danger of being evicted by the moneylender ( MS Bhasker) looms large, another misfortune befalls them, when the young boy loses his stepmom's gold ring.
What happens next? How do the children get out of this mess and the impending wrath of the stepmom? Does the family manage to pay back the creditor?
Erumbu is a heartfelt story seen through the eyes of two children. The tender moments, the innocence of childhood, the small joys that makes life so precious, the magic of a loving sibling bond that makes every burden lighter.. all this and more is beautifully captured in this story.
The performance of every actor is superb. The dialogues are natural and there is no melodrama. The scenes between the siblings are wonderful to watch while their relationship with their adult 'friend' ( George Maryan in an amazing performance) will being out tears of laughter and sadness at the same time.
The bgm and camerawork support the director's vision as the movie takes you down nostalgia lane.
A beautiful watch for the entire family.
Erumbu hits theatres on June 16th.
