Movie Review :Vidamuyarchi
The Ajith Kumar - Trisha starrer directed by Magizh Thirumeni hit screens on 6 February 2025.
Set in Azerbaijan, the story revolves around a rich exec Arjun ( Ajith Kumar ) and his wife Kayal ( Trisha) who after a whirlwind romance, now have a troubled marriage after 12 years. While Kayal feels neglected and disconnected from Arjun, and wants to end the marriage, Arjun still loves her. He convinces her to go on a final road trip before their divorce.
But on the trip, things soon get out of control when they are chased by a menacing ruffian( Arav) and his his gang and before you know it, Kayal goes missing. Despite no help in sight, a frantic Arjun goes all out to find out what happened to her and save her from danger at any cost. Does he succeed?
What works for the film is Ajith Kumar's dapper, mesmerising looks and earnest performance as the husband who wants to save his marriage and rescue his wife. He plays his role with a quiet dignity, highlighting how he respects his wife's wishes to divorce him, though he still loves her and wants to work on the marriage. This angle seems a different one from the usual siituations written for stars in Kollywood.
In the early part of the film, we get to see a dashing and charming Ajith as he romances a gorgeous Trisha and one wishes to see them together on screen in a romantic comedy drama in future. The duo look mesmerisingly perfect especially in the sawadeeka song. Om Prakash's soft frames and lighting add magic to those portions and later he also brings to life the starkness of the forlorn local landscape in the suspense filled portions.
Later as the film moves to the thriller portion, we see less of Trisha and more of Ajith as the helpless husband looking to solve the mystery and save his wife from unknown villains. The action and thrilling portions that stand out are those in the car chase sequences and and the one where Ajith fights 3 villains inside a moving vehicle apart from the final climax portions and a sequence inside a house, to name a few.
Arav, Arjun and Regina Cassandra stand out with their performances, with Regina stealing the show in a meaty role.
On the flip side one could say that the screenplay begins to lag when a seemingly perenially helpless Ajith encounters more and more baddies out to eliminate him, beating him badly in several places, not an easy pill for any star fans to swallow.
The constant speaking of characters in the local language and the fleeting sub-titles become tiring to keep track of and watch after a while. Perhaps a Tamil voice over would have helped. The final climax scenes are not for the faint hearted.
With thrilling stunts, Anirudh's solid bgm, Om Prakash's magical camerawork Ajith Kumar's mesmerising presence ( including several different looks), Trisha's charm, and convincing performances by the baddies, Vida Muyarchi overall makes for an interesting watch.
