Movie Review : AATTI
Set in the 1970's , Amaithiraj ( Essaki Saravanan) is an encounter specialist transferred to a remote mountain village in the Kodai Hills, inhabited by plantation worker families.
Azhagu ( Abi Nakshatra) is a bold tribal plantation girl who helps in the education of the small kids in the village.
But when a new teacher is, assigned to the remote village, she is disturbed when he acts inappropriately with her.
In the meanwhile, Amaithiraj is bent upon finding criminals and crime in the area.
One day, when the new teacher is found dead outside his cottage, Amaithiraj starts his investigation which leads to startling revelations.
Who is responsible for the murder? Is there a dark secret lurking amongst the villagers and in the jungles?
The period setting of the film is well brought out on screen, kudos to the camera tea, who get the tone and tenor just right.
The characters are well etched and presented, be it Azhagu 's characters that of the cops or the villainous teacher.Even the two kids who are pranksters wanting to bunk classes, do a fine job. Abi Nakahatra seems the perfect choice and does a fine job of her role.
The suspense build -up is well done all througb the film. The link to past events in history its well integrated into the plot and screenplay but could have been better done for more effect.
On the flip side the film's screenplay seems a tad slow . Also, the final portions seem hurried in comparison to the measured pace of the film and leave more questions than answers. The findings linking the story to past history could have been narrated.
Overall an interesting premise, with an intriguing setting and storyline and neat performances, good visuals and bgm, but which could have been more effective with a faster screenplay and a more in -depth climax.
