Sony Pictures Releasing International Hosts Special Project Hail Mary Screening for IN-SPACe and ISRO Scientists
With India’s private space ecosystem gaining momentum under the guidance of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), the commercial arm of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the country’s space ambitions continue to reach new heights. IN-SPACe is an autonomous nodal agency under the Department of Space, Government of India, tasked with promoting, enabling, authorising and supervising non-government entities (NGEs) undertaking space activities.
Celebrating the spirit of scientific curiosity and exploration, Sony Pictures Releasing International hosted a special screening of the highly anticipated Project Hail Mary for members of IN-SPACe and ISRO ISTRAC—marking the first time ever that a Hollywood film screening has been organized exclusively for dignitaries from these esteemed institutions.
Adding a memorable touch to the evening, the film’s lead actor Ryan Gosling made a special video call-out to the scientists in attendance, saying:
“I’d like to salute all the talented people at ISRO for pushing the boundaries of space exploration and inspiring the world through science and perseverance.”
Held on March 21, 2026, at Nexus Shantiniketan Mall, the event brought together Dr. Vinod Kumar – Director & Promotion Directorate of IN-SPACe, Dr. Srimathy Kesan, Founder & CEO of Space Kidz India and Mission Director of ShakthiSAT, along with IN-SPACe members and scientists from ISRO ISTRAC representing India’s rapidly growing space community for an exclusive early preview of the film.
Based on the bestselling novel by Andy Weir and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Project Hail Mary follows Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling), a lone astronaut who awakens aboard a mysterious spacecraft with no memory of who he is or the mission that brought him there—only to discover he may be humanity’s last hope to stop a catastrophic threat to Earth.
Blending the worlds of science and cinema, the evening offered a unique intersection between real-world space exploration and cinematic storytelling, as scientists experienced a narrative rooted in scientific problem-solving and interstellar discovery.
The film also stars Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung and Milana Vayntrub.
Presented by Amazon MGM Studios and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing International, Project Hail Mary releases in Indian cinemas on March 26, 2026, in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu across IMAX® and other premium large formats.
