Movie Review: Angikaaram

Aadhiran ( KJR) lives with his mother a conservancy worker, and his sister, and is a serious athlete with several medals to his name, right up to the national levels.

Despite his struggles in life, which includes injuries and lack of funds , his aim is to represent India in the Commonwealth Games.

However, he meets obstacles in the form of local sports bodies and their office bearers who keep him out with petty politics and rampant corruption.

Aadhiran decides the only recourse he has is to go to court to fight the system and achieve his goal.

Does he succeed?

The film is a sports drama with a superb message. It successfully brings to the fore the various forms of corruption and politics that sports bodies are involved in, too the detriment of the common man and the talented potential sportsmen and women who hail from humble bsckgrounds and for this the makers deserve kudos.

The courtroom scenes are superbly detailed in the content they bring to light and the rivetting performances of Adhiran and Viji Venkatesh ( as the Advocate General) are top notch, their face -off scenes being the highlight of the movie

While the first half details the characters and the setting, the second half keeps the viewer hooked with the various twists and turns. The movie also works as it establishes an emotional connect with the viewer, thanks to Kjr's performance both as the athlete ( his transformation is fantastic) and his superb dialogue delivery and convincing, fiery performance in the courtroom portions.

The songs and bgm of Ghibran are terrific. The visuals and production values are good.

Angikaasram adresses several issues concerning sports and the common man and leaves a mark with constructive suggestions to address lacunae in the system.

A spirited movie,  with its heart in the right place, made in an engaging manner making it a worthy watch for both youth and  family audiences alike.

Rating 3.5/5
