Movie Review : Con City

Saravanan ( Arjun Das) works at the Electricity Board. Being in heavy debt he teams up with a friend, and starts a con to gain quick money in order to be worthy of the rich girl he is going to marry.

Mithra ( Anna Ben) after being conned, starts  running  a  similar scam, making money in the real estate business.

Jackie ( Yogi Babu) and his mother (Vadivukkarasi) are by a,series of circumstances, pushed into scamming people to donate to their trust, due to medical reasons.

The lives of all these people converge at one point and the act further lands them into trouble. Though they escape impending doom, fate soon catches up with them.  Do they escape punishment? Or does this only lead to further cons to save their skins?

The film is an engaging watch with one scam after another interspersed with cons of different sorts which keep you invested with many suspense -filled nail-biting moments as the characters get through by the skin of their teeth. Right till the end the film keeps up a steady momentum of twists with a racy screenplay which moves just at the right pace, giving time for the comedy and emotions to sink in.

Its,good to see Arjun Das in a light role compared to his type casting as a villain. He proves his mettle and keeps you guessing and entertained with a nuanced performance. His scenes with Anna Ben, son Jeeva and with VTV Ganesh are particularly engaging.

Yogi Babu and Vadivukkarasi make a suoerb pair as mom and son  while Anna Ben has a good role which she performs most credibly.

Arul Doss deserves special mention for a particular scene at the EB board which proves his mettle as a performer not just in negative roles but also humorous ones. VTV Ganesh it's another solid pillar of the film.

The night shoots and particular color tones work well for the film. Sean Rolden's music is a plus.

Con City keeps you entertained and engaged right from the word go, justifying its title, with its superb casting being a big highlight.
