Movie Review: Paris Cafe

Guru Somasundaram plays a Gautham Raja, a doctor happily married to Thara (Anumol). They have a daughter Oli, who lives in USA studying in a top Uni there and set to marry a young man Kavin, over there.

But these happy lives are disrupted when the doctor reveals a dark and guilty secret to his wife who is horrified, and leaves him in frustration. The doctor, under threat of bodily harm to him and his family, had to sign a post- mortem  document giving a clean chit to an honour killing of a girl and her husband.

Now, upon hearing this truth years later, Thara convinces Gautham to confess and re-opens the case so that  justice can be served.

What happens next?

The film has a stylish and trendy making. It highlights the love of 2 different generations and presents both in a thought provoking manner.

The topic of honour  killing is the core theme of the film and the film imparts a noble social message on honesty and social justice.

Anumol and Guru Somasundaram deftly handle their roles lending a natural touch with their realistic performances. The rest of the cas to a supwrb job in their roles.

The visuals are top notch and the sound and bgm add value and elevate the film.

The screenplay moves deftly for the most part but repetitive dialogues slow things down in few places.

The relationships between spouses, and the lack of communication and confidence in confiding to each other are well brough out.

However, dialogues attributed to Gowtham im key scenes, seem poorly written where he is unable to explain things to his wife.  Fine actors, like Guru and Anumol could have been given more powerful dialogues to drive home their points.

Watch out for a suspenseful climax.

Overall a neat and well-made, engaging, family drama with a contemporary social message.
