Movie Review : Kolai Seval

Kali ( Kalaiyarasan) and Anasuya ( Deepa Bala) have a love marriage  and now she is pregnant. As per family custom, they travel to a remote forest temple to pray to a goddess. 

After the rituals, the family returns while the couple are set to travel back on Kali's bike.

But just as they are about to do so, something happens which changes Kali's life forever.

What happens to the couple? Who are the perpetrators and why did they do what they did? 






The film builds up suspense bit by bit, thanks to a measured screenplay, that takes you through the lives of the young couple and those of the family,  neighbours and friends.

Just as your wondering out may go a certain way,  a twist appears to keep you guessing again.

The film gives a beautiful slice of life,  realistic feel, with dialogues steeped in the local dialect, characters that are well written all building up a slow emotional  connect to these people. 

But the climax comes as a shock and not many would be able to come to terms with the raw and gory violence in the climax.

Though Kalaiyarasan and Deepa Bala along with Bala Saravanan,  perform excellently, it somwhow seems to be washed away as the climax leaves more questions unanswered

Movie Review : Parasakthi

 Director Sudha Kongara's Parasakthi hit screens on 10th January. The film is based on the TN students anti Hindi imposition movement in the 1960s. The story revolves around a student, Chezhiyan (Sivakarthikeyan) who starts an agitation against Hindi imposition along with co-students, on one dark night on the railway tracks. But when a tragedy befalls one of the members in the fire that ensues, he is shaken and  gives it all up to continue with life.   However, years later events come a full circle when Chezhiyan is drawn again into the agitation, when his younger brother Chinnadurai ( Atharvaa Murali) is fired up by the circumstances prevailing, when Hindi imposition begins to affect lives and livlihoods of the common man.  Chezhiyan finds a compatriot in Ratnamala ( Sreeleela), his neighbour, who aids the cause along with other youngsters.  But the past catches up with him in the form of the ruthless KGB trained special  intelligence officer Thirunaa...

Movie Review: Mahasena

 Sengottavan ( Vemal ) and his wife Bommi ( Shrusti Dange) live in a mountain village and are leaders of the people. Sengottavan has an enemy in the tribal leader Ganga ( Mahina Ghupta) who was once his lover at a young age, but the duo were separated due to a village feud with a statue at the centre of it all. Now,  Ganga is baying for his blood and wants to kill Sengottavan and get back the village deity as well. In the mix is a corrupt cop (John Vijay) who also wants the statue. But he is working in cahoots with the tycoon King Of God ( Kabir Duhan Singh) who cruelly tortures the villagers and steals the statue with the help of the cops. What happens next? Is Sengottavan able to save the deity and his village from destruction? Is the dispute between the rivals solved in the process?
