I PLAY A RUGGED YET EMOTIONAL CHARACTER IN ANDHRA MESS – RAJ BHARATH

by Rinku Gupta

He’s the son of yesteryear producer and director Malliyam Rajgopal ( Savale Samaali, Thulabharam).

His last outing in Tamil was Richie which marked Nivin Pauly’s debut in Tamil. Currently he is excited about his  film Andhra Mess, releasing this week after a Long delay of several years. In a chat, the laid back, tall, rugged and good-looking actor  Raj Bharat, talks about his film  and future plans.

What is your role in Andhra  Mess?
I play a guy called Rathna who is kind of a split personality. He’s a rugged yet emotional character. He’s a toughie on the outside but soft hearted. He loves his mom but is angry at his father from childhood due to an incident. He keeps directing that anger to the world in an on and off mode in different situations.  So it was quite challenging to play someone like that.
What is the significance of the title?

It will reveal the knot if I tell you. It will be best seen on screen! But there is definitely a relevance.

What is  the USP of Andhra Mess according to you.

The screenplay and structure of  debut director Jai is different. There is a kind of disjointed screenplay structure which is kind of a new template. The sound too is unturned done by Angamaly Diaries ( Malayalam ), Shaitan (Hindi) , Solo ( Malyalam, Hindi) fame music director  Prashant Pillai. The genre is dark humour with an emotional angle. Tejasvini plays the lead opposite me. There is a kind of bold narration. I hope people like it.  Renowned artist AP Sreethar is playing a big role.
Where have you shot the film?
We shot in Chennai and Yelagiri.
Tell us something about the films you have done so far…

Well I started with Ainthu Ainthu Ainthu with a small role. But it was a meaty role in Mysskin’s Onaiyum Aatukuttiyum where I played the villain in a wheelchair that got me recognition. Then I acted in  Natpadhigaaram 79. My last film was the Nivin Pauly starrer Richie. Now after Andhra Mess which took a few years to release, I am next looking forward to the release of  my next film, Sigai

What is your role in  Sigai?

The film has a new kind of backdrop. I play one of the leads and  it’s a grey shade character.  Its has been to many film festivals. It’s a new kind of script  which is quite exciting to be a part of.  We are looking to release it soon.
