Film Review: Azhagiya Kanne
Azhagiya Kanne stars Sanchita Shetty and debutant Leo Sivakumar and hits theatres on June 23rd.
Inba ( Leo Sivakumar) and ( Sanchita Shetty ) are neighbours in a village, living opposite each other. The duo soon fall in love. Inba is an aspiring director and finds a job as Prabhu Solomon's assistant. Sanchita gets a job in the IT sector. The duo soon become parents and Inba gets to sign up his first movie, with Vijay Sethupathi.
But people from the village, who are opposed to their wedding, decide to wreak havoc in their lives. What happens next?
The film is visually pleasant with the camera of A R Ashok Kumar capturing scenic village locales then moving to city life. The songs are well shot as well.
The actors have all done justice to their rules. Debutant Leo Sivakumar delivers a neat performance, with good dialogue delivery, dance moves and screen presence. A bit of more work in emotional scenes would have added to the performance. He is good in the action scenes, making them look credible with his performance.
Sanchita makes her presence felt with a solid act as lover, wife and mom, with a more measured performance.
The screenplay moves at a steady pace but after a while as it meanders into the city life of the couple finding lodgings etc, the events seem stretched and take away from the tension of the vengeance drama that appears at the end and finishes off fast as well.
The peek into the life of an assistant director is interesting as are the scenes with Prabu Solomon. Good production values and a solid supporting cast add to the film, as does the music of NR Raghunathan.
The emotional scenes however, could have been tweaked to create more impact.
A social message of the evils of casteism is what the director seemingly intends to convey.
