Movie Review: Uyir Tamizhukku

When a politico, P Ramchandran ( Anandraj) an MLA, is killed, MGR Pandian ( Ameer) lands up at the funeral even though cops are looking out for him as  he is suspected to be behind the killing.  Who is Pandian?

Pandian has risen from the ranks, and joined politics in the local body election. This was solely because he fell in love and wanted to woo, Tamilselvi ( Chandini Sreedharan) the rival political candidate  Ramachandran's daughter.

But though she was initially interested in him and impressed by him, she now hates him, as she views him as her father's murderer.

Pandian is determined to prove his innocence. Does he succeed?

The film is an all out political drama with large doses of satire thrown in to make a heady mix of entertainment, especially in the election season, which may strike a chord with audiences.

Director Aadham Bawa has pulled out all stops and through his characters and situations  takes jibes at a whole gamut of political parties and their working styles over the decades.

The film's humor works in its favor as does the performance of Ameer in the lead role,  ably supported by the expressive Chandini Sreedharan, who conveys a whole lot through just her eyes and expressions.

Dialogues and punches are well written and delivered ably by Ameer. Other stand-out performances are by Raj Kapoor, Imaan Annachi and Anand Raj who add to the satire and bring in the reactions from the viewer.

The scale of the film is big and the grand making shows on screen to the film's favour.

On the flip side few scenes seem monotonous and repetive after a while since there is not much of a break from the electioneering, plotting and speeches which are the main settings of the movie.

Overall, Uyir Tamizhakku is a political drama, with  ample doses of a breezy romance, twists, humor and satire, that  manages to largely  entertain.
