Movie Review: Indra

Indra (Vasanth Ravi) is a cop who had been suspended from active duty due to alcohol addiction. Things are not good at home with his wife Kayal ( Mehreen Pirzada) as well. As a result, he seeks refuge in more alcohol. Until one day, when he finds that he has lost his eyesight. To make things worse within a few days,  Kayal who is now taking care of him,  is found murdered inside their appartment.

Meanwhile in the city,  a serial killer is on the loose whose modus operandi matches the death of Kayal. Indra is desperate to find the killer who turned his life upside down.

But with his physical condition, how can he achieve this goal?

Indra is an interestingly narrated investigative cop thriller. Vasanth Ravi's frame,  body language and build seems perfectly suited to his role and the actor does a brilliant job, especially in the action scenes which are well choreohraphed all through. He pulls off exceptionally, the portions where he has lost vision, and the stunts scenes in his vision impaired state deserve mention. He aptly brings out the emotional state and turmoil of a man caught up in a whirlwind of traumatic events.

Sunil ( from Tollywood) plays the villain who instils fear and chills with his performance. Mehrene plays the distraught wife with just the right dose of emotions and the lead pair look good together in the romantic moments and songs.

The film moves at a crisp pace, though some of the drama in the first half could have been trimmed, to make the film more taught.

The second half has a series of surprise twists and the film picks up pace, with more emotions, action and suspense, leading to a finale you perhaps never saw coming.

Anikha Surendran adds to the movie with her consummate performance, bringing more depth to the plot.

While the camerawork is  on point and the art department has done a fine job, its the continuous background score that incessantly keeps playing , with hardly any silent moments to absorb the emotions or suspense, which acts as a major dampener. Moreover, the overly loud bgm also drowns the dialogues in most places.

Overall, Indra, with the sound performance of its leads, well chosen supporting cast and ample suspense and chills makes  for an interesting watch.

Rating : 3 /5
