Movie Review : Marutham
A hardworking, simple hearted, and much respected farmer ( Vidharth) lives with his wife ( Rakshana) and young son, whom he wants to educate in an English medium school. For the donation amount, he mortgages his land with a local person knoen to him.
To his utter shock he discovers that the land he mortgaged, has actually been auctioned off by the local bank,to someone else.
He soon realises that he has been a victim of a fraudulent bank scam and will now lose everything he holds dear.
He has no choice but to fight back. But the opponent is too big and powerful. Does he succeed in finding justice? Does he win back his land? Who helps him?
Director V Gajendran has touched upon a unique subject and has superbly executed his vision in a most simple but engaging manner, educating the public about a vital issue and for this he deserves kudos.
The casting is superb. Vidharth delivers a most realitic performance, which is the highlight of the film, lending the proceedings full credibility. He is aided by Rakshana Induchoodan ( in her second film) who delivers a noteworthy performance. The scenes betwen the duo, be out at home, in the songs or with their child, are outstandingly natural and realistic.
The supporting cast also adds value to the film.
The visuals are delightful, the music is apt for the situations. The edit is well executed keeping flab at bay.
Another highlight are the taut and thrilling court scenes. Further the way the director has taken pains to unravel the smallest of details, and explain it all in layman's terms, in an easy that could be useful to the common man, is laudable. The film has emotional moments and is laced with humor and ample suspense,along with a clear message but at no point does it get preachy. The film makes you feel for its characters and involves you in their story, which is no mean achievement.
Overall, a most engaging. impactful and must watch entertainer.
