Directed by debutant director Suresh Bharathi, the film 'Veera Tamilachi' stars Sanjeev Venkat, Ilaya, Sushmita Suresh, Swetha Dorathi, late actor Marimuthu, writer and actor Vela Ramamoorthy, K. Rajan, Meesai Rajendran, Jayam Gopi and many others. The cinematography of this film is by Sankaralingam Selvakumar and the music is composed by Jupin. The film is jointly produced by producers Saratha Manivannan and Magizhini on behalf of Magizhini Kalaikoodam.
Directors R. V. Udayakumar, Perarasu, Rajakumaran, Vijay Sri, and producer Anbuchelvan were present as special guests along with the film crew at the music and preview launch of the film.
Speaking at the event, producer Manivannan said, "'Veera Tamilachi' has been created to celebrate the bravery of Tamil women. We are going to release this film in theaters soon. I kindly request everyone to watch and enjoy this 'Veera Tamilachi' in theaters and turn it into a successful Tamilachi."
Director R. V. Udayakumar said, "The producers have given a good director a chance. I thank the producer for making the dream of a director who is a construction worker come true."
Since the director is a construction worker, it is clear from the preview and songs that he has created the work by looking at which stone should be placed where, which mixture should be applied where, where the window should be placed, where the reading room should be placed, how the bedroom should be, how the kitchen should be, what width and length it should be. Every director is compared to an architect. They are the ones who have to see a lot of engineering work, such as where and how to start the story, how to take it, what is the image of the protagonist in that story, what is the heroine's job, what is the essence that we can tell, and what is the conclusion of this story. I was also a great architect once. So I sincerely wish this film to be good.
The director has made the film based on the incidents of sexual assault against women in Tamil Nadu.
The songs in this film are beautiful and good. The 'theme song' featured in the film is also good.
The inclusion of actors like Sanjeev and Ilayah in this heroine-oriented script should be commended.
After watching the preview of this film, I had an idea. This film should get a lot of theaters. In today's environment, it is difficult for small budget films to get theaters. However, we should negotiate with the theater owners and distributors to screen this film in 40 or 50 theaters in three or four screenings daily. Only if a film is released in three screenings in a theater, will the film get publicity through 'mouth talk' in a few days. Only then will such good films reach the people.
"I congratulate and thank all the actors, actresses and technicians who worked on this film. I also wish that the success of this film will bring many more opportunities to this team," he said.
Speaking at the event, the chairman of the Small Film Producers' Council, Anbuselvan said, "The world knows that the women of Tamil Nadu are the heroes of Veera Tamilachi. All the work of this film was completed and it was supposed to be released three months ago. The producer is working hard and trying to release the film. This film should be a huge success because of the hard work and good intentions of this producer.
"I would like to make a request to the media not to publish reviews of the film on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the day the film is released. Please save the short film producers," he said.
Director Sravana Subbaiah said, "There is a film called Veeram. There is a film called 'Tamil'. There is a film called 'Tamiljan'. There is a film called 'Tamilachi'. Just hearing the name 'Veera Tamilachi' has a good vibe.
Tamil is a unique language that is not found anywhere else in the world. There is a grammar for it. There is a big secret in Tamil, like 'tha' is a vowel and 'mi' is a consonant. There is a gene that comes from Tamil, and bravery and emotion are naturally present in its blood. We have seen and read this in epics. We are going to see it in this film. I hope this film will have a content like a woman who takes revenge through violence. There is also talk of making some legal amendments regarding the sexual assault in this film. So this film should be successful.
The film 'Pudumaippen', directed by Bharathiraja, can be said to have revolutionized the society for women. That film was talked about during that period. The film 'Veera Tamilachi' is being made during this period. I commend the producer for making a film with such content that is not commercial.
"The law is an open book. Therefore, not knowing about that law is a crime. Not making an effort to know such a law is also a crime." In the climax scene of this film, a character is depicted talking to the legal genius Ambedkar. He himself has mentioned that the law can be amended once every five years. The idea conveyed by this film is valuable. The music and songs of this film are good. The way the action scenes, especially the action scenes for the heroine, have been designed for this film is also commendable," he said.
Director Rajakumaran said, "We don't need to train women to beat us. The truth is that we can't stand it if they beat us. We are proud that they don't beat us. They are incredibly strong and mentally strong. If we compare ourselves to them, we are weak."
Men have a fantasy of showing themselves as mountains. Women have a fantasy of showing themselves as flowers. But what we see is not a flower, what they have is a mountain. I have felt this in my own experience. I have been beaten by many women, but I have never met a woman as majestic and strong as my mother. I have seen her in all situations.
Similarly, Devayani, that woman who looks like Pushpam to you, is such a strong, strong woman who can hit not one ton but two or three tons of weight with one blow. I have seen this too. They are truly strong. They treat us gently for the sake of men and children. So even if actress Sushmita Suresh was not trained while acting in the action scenes in this film... she would have acted terribly in the action scenes. I congratulate her. There are no actresses who can act in this action genre, I request you to come to that place.
Director Suresh Bharathi has made his mark by directing short films and then directed this film. My congratulations and appreciation to him too,” he said.
Actress Sushmita Suresh said, "I am deeply grateful to the director and producer for choosing me and giving me the opportunity to act as the heroic Tamil girl."
While acting in the fight scenes of this film, the stunt master worked keeping my safety and comfort in mind. Especially when I was acting in the scene where I was hanging upside down, he was always afraid whether I was scared or not. I would like to express my gratitude to the stunt master, Mirtal Selva, for taking care of me and protecting me.
We have seen action scenes in movies. But it is only when we act in them that we see the difficulty. While acting in the fight scenes of this film, my body felt pain, but I endured it and cooperated with the film crew.
Everyone on the set interacted like a family. It was a wonderful experience. I think this film will be a film that will easily connect with women. It will be a film that teaches us how to bring out the problems that women face in this society.
"Many people asked me why I am an aeronautical engineering graduate, why I am acting. But since acting was my passion, my parents patiently came to the audition and supported me. Many women dream of achieving success in cinema. I request my parents to realize this and support them," she said.
Music composer Jubin said, "I have worked on this film after 'Draupadi' and 'Rudra Thandavam'.
There are three songs in this movie. One song is written by Kalaimamani Viveka and the other song is written by debutant lyricist Senthil Raja. We edited it only after writing this song. The third song is a title song called Veera Tamilachi.
This is the story of how a victimized woman fights back. In this film, the heroine Sushmita Suresh is intimidating in the action scenes. It is like watching Vijayashanti of that time on screen. A big place awaits them after the release of this film, congratulations.
"The producer has paid me the full salary that was promised for this film. You won't find such a kind producer in the film industry. We will never have the authority to pay him a salary, they should continue to produce the film," he said.
Director Suresh Bharathi said, "If I have risen from a low-level construction worker with a salary of Rs. 35 to a director today, the first reason for this is my wife and sons. I have been working for this film for the last five years. My wife has been guiding me and my family in all these five years."
In 2016, my first short film 'Koncham Konchamaka..' was given one lakh rupees by my Gurunathar Palaniswami from Kadmadi area of Chidambaram. This short film was selected as the best awareness short film and I received an award from the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. My second short film 'Thai'. It was released online and has been viewed by 46 million viewers so far. So far, I have directed 18 short films and won 36 awards. If I direct it, it will definitely be successful, and I am confident that I will direct a work that will succeed.
After that, I prepared a story for cinema and approached many producers and told the story. I told the story at Magizhini Kalaikoodat. They did not have the finances to produce the film, so we started making this film through crowdfunding. The shooting lasted for a week. Producer Nithyanandam joined us after knowing that the film was doing well. After that, he said that I would produce the entire film myself. Producer Nithyanandam is the one who continuously encouraged me and made my directorial dream come true. I express my heartfelt gratitude to him at this moment.
When I started this film, I said the budget was 60 lakh rupees. But now the film has been completed with 3.5 crore rupees.
This film is an awareness film for women. The film deals with all the issues like where and when women are subjected to sexual harassment, how they should recover from it, and what is the solution to this. I hope the climax of the film will be different and this film will definitely be a success.
What I wanted to say through this film was brought as a legal amendment by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. M.K. Stalin in the Legislative Assembly six months ago. I made the film in this regard three years ago. We are proud that what I wanted to say to the people as a solution has been brought as a legal amendment. If this film had come out six months ago, our story would have been the hero. All the incidents in this film are true. I have proof for this.
I am a huge fan of Captain Vijayakanth. I cried for three days without eating or sleeping after hearing the news of Captain Vijayakanth's demise. I learned about cinema by watching Captain Vijayakanth's films. I was thinking about what film I should direct with Vijayakanth, but since he was not there, I have directed it with a new heroine. In that way, I have introduced a female Vijayakanth.
RV Udayakumar, I want to direct action films after watching people like Perarasu.
I have watched more than 50 action movies in languages other than Tamil. After seeing numerous references on what it would be like for a heroine to do action, I and stand master Mirtal Selva discussed the action scenes for the film's heroine, Sushmita Suresh.
They wouldn't have a scene where a Tamil woman is tied up upside down and hung upside down and kicked, I think this is the first time such a scene has been seen in Tamil cinema. I don't remember seeing this in any Tamil film before. Actress Sushmita gave her full cooperation in acting in this scene.
I have never even seen any filming before. But if I have directed a film, it is because of Vijayakanth, who is united with me. Even today, before attending this event, I have come here after visiting the Captain's Samadhi and paying my respects. So his blessings will be perfect for this film.
Every human being is born with talent. It should be revealed. You should not be afraid of anyone. You should not be in awe of anyone. If you have talent, you can succeed. I have become a director because I want to be an example for this.
"I, an ordinary construction worker in our town, have 25 cutouts today from the construction workers' union," he said.
Director Perarasu said, "Those who accept the truths that happen in the family are the brave Tamilians. In that sense, our director Rajakumaran is the best brave Tamilian. It was evident from his speech that the truth will never be revealed. We have seen Devayani Madam as a softie so far. But now we know that she is an action heroine at home.
I am attending this event to congratulate someone who has risen from a construction worker to a director.
What is the difference between effort and perseverance? If we keep making effort, then at some point effort will not leave us. That is persistent effort.
If you want to build a house well, you need a good mason. If you want to have a good family, you need two threads, one is a thread. The other is a thread. The director is a good mason. He knows where to put a song in a film? Where to put a byte?
Who is Veera Tamilachi? Veera Tamilachi is the one who stands by her husband when he is in trouble and showcases his talent. If you look at it that way, Veera Tamilachi is the director's wife.
When you hear some titles, you wonder how they missed this title until now. In that sense, this Veera Tamilachi title is good. There have been many heroic Tamilachis like Velu Nachiyar in Tamil Nadu. Veera Tamilachi is a film that is suitable for this period.
"Veera Tamilachi is not about hitting or kicking. It is not about hitting with shoes or hitting with hands. Veera Tamilachi is the woman who bravely reported to this society that an animal had mutilated her on the Anna University campus. Learning karate, shooting a gun, swinging a cymbal, all this is not heroism. Heroism should not be in the body, but in the mind. This is what I saw in this film. A woman should rise up against injustice, and this is what this Veera Tamilachi is saying," he said.
