Movie Review : Aazhi

Murthy (Sarathkumar) is a boat repairman who also indulges in traficcing  narcotics and guns on the seas. He has a daughter Mukhila (Devika Satheesh) whom he dearly loves.





But one day when he discovers she is in love with Arul ( Jagajith Indirajith)  a young man working in a petrol bunk, he is deeply angry.

He kidnaps the boy on his boat and tortures him mid sea and attempts to kill him. 



He almost succeeds when a tragedy strikes. What happens to both of them?

The movie is shot mostly on the boat. Dialogues are not that many and the situations and expressions do most of the talking.

The scenes on mid sea in the storm add to the thrilling and suspenseful moments. However, the torture scenes are hard to watch and get a tad too gory.

Sarathkumar plays a loving dad who will go to any extreme, a character with grey shades and he does do very credibly, carrying the film on his shoulders. His rugged look and body build further add to the portrayal of the character. 

The young man Indrajith has also done an exemplary job. The action scenes between Indrajith and Sarathkumar in the boat are simply rivetting, and well conceptualised and executed by the actors.

Devika has a brief role and is well cast as the innocent youngster deeply in love.  The bond between father and daughter is well brought out, making a strong base for what comes later.

The film is about the depth of love, forgiveness  regret and redemption narrated with the tumultous seas becoming a main character as it reflects the emotions of the characters.

On the flip side, the film may seem a tad monotonous as is centred mostly 2 characters with their activities majorly on a boat.

Aazhi stands out as a different attempt.

Movie Review: Mahasena

 Sengottavan ( Vemal ) and his wife Bommi ( Shrusti Dange) live in a mountain village and are leaders of the people. Sengottavan has an enemy in the tribal leader Ganga ( Mahina Ghupta) who was once his lover at a young age, but the duo were separated due to a village feud with a statue at the centre of it all. Now,  Ganga is baying for his blood and wants to kill Sengottavan and get back the village deity as well. In the mix is a corrupt cop (John Vijay) who also wants the statue. But he is working in cahoots with the tycoon King Of God ( Kabir Duhan Singh) who cruelly tortures the villagers and steals the statue with the help of the cops. What happens next? Is Sengottavan able to save the deity and his village from destruction? Is the dispute between the rivals solved in the process? Movie Review : Parasakthi

 Director Sudha Kongara's Parasakthi hit screens on 10th January. The film is based on the TN students anti Hindi imposition movement in the 1960s. The story revolves around a student, Chezhiyan (Sivakarthikeyan) who starts an agitation against Hindi imposition along with co-students, on one dark night on the railway tracks.
