Movie Review : Amaram

 

Arukan ( Rajan Tejeshwar) is part of a gamg of mercenary killers on hire, led by Mozart (George Maryan). They hail from a tiny remote hamlet in the mountains,  an arid area where employment is hard to come by.

During one prticular assignment, things turn unexpectedly ugly and Arukan find himself in the cross hairs of feuds between groups of people involved in hiring, of which he had no clue.

But the result of the assignment has a,domino effect which brings a girl Sharmila ( Iraa Agarwal) into his life,  the daughter of the man he killed. 

Ironically, she has no idea tha Arukan is the killer. Searching for the killer and wanting him to bring him to justice, leads both Sharmila abs Arukan down a dangerous path, surrounded by enemies. To add to it,  the reserved Arukan develops tender feelings for Sharmila.

What happens to the duo? Does their love survive the danger they are in?

The film starts off in a  superbly thrilling manner, high on suspense and action, though albeit a grusome killing follows.

Viewers are then introduced to the background of the characters and the odds they are up against. These portions too garner interest and keep you imvested.

 

The movie brings to life the trials and tribulations faced by its principal characters, with its raw visuals  and dialogues.

Several characters being introduced subsequently keep you on your toes to follow the plot. 

However,  after a while,  the dialogues and characters they refer to are tough to keep track of.  With Mozart's death midway, the attention begins to wane as the film wanders into romantic territory. However, one does get to see the highhandedness of those in authority and the intrigue in high places, behind the scenes, with the entry of Sharmila's character.

The scenes where Arukan warms up to Sharmila are touching and bring out the vulnerability behind his tough exterior.

Rajan Tejeshwar does a noteworthy performance with his raw, rooted, quietly powerful, rustic body language and eyes that speak volumes. 

Iraa Agarwal looks the town girl led into unknown territory and does justice to her role. 

George Maryan is the highlight of the film and his removal midway makes the film lose steam.

The screenplay, though suspenseful, racy and intense in the  beginning, suffers due to sudden song breaks and flat comedy portions, all of which take away from the intensity of the film. This aspect is  confusing for  the viewer who  has been taking the film seriously from the start. Also, the gory violence in places is a turn-off.

Overall, the film begins well, has a solid cast, raw locales and give you a peek into the world of its characters. A little more attention to dialogues, screenplay and the ending would have worked more for the film.
