Movie Review: Hi

 Mayilsamy ( Kavin) dreams of falling in love and getting married one day but when this never happens he loses all hope.

One day he meets the beautiful Devayani (Nayanthara) with whom he slowly falls in love. But she has problems of her own to deal with and is focussed on getting a job to fend for herself.

But due to a series of circumstances,  she lands up in Mayilsamy's home after he lies to his parents ( Radhika and late Bhagyaraj) about her being his lady love and pregnant with his child. 

The family is shocked but accepts her and readies for a grand wedding.

But Mayilsamy knows she doesnt love him and is focussed on her job. 

Does Mayilsamy manage to tell her his true feelings? Does she reciprocate his love? 

The first half is spent introducing the characters and their respective worlds sprinkled with humor, in a light-hearted manner keeping the viewer engaged.

It's in the second half that the film really picks up, with Devayani joining Mayilsamy's large joint family,  amidst all the mayhem, the duo finally discovering the meaning of true love. 

Radhika and Bhagyaraj elevate the proceedings with their performances while Adithya Kathir amps up the humor quotient along with Sathyan.

Nayanthara looks beautiful in every frame and delivers a refreshing, terrific performance, aceing especually the emotional scenes. Kavin in a light hearted romantic role is a delightful change than his usual fare and the duo make for a refreshing screen pair.

The emotional scenes are a highlight of the film. Be it scenes with  Kavin and his father,  mother and Nayan or those between Nayan, her dad actor Prabhu, her mother Suhasinj and with Radhika. The climax scenes between Kavin and Nayan are among the touching scenes in the movie, striking an emotional chord with the viewer.

The film seems to fumble in places when it's not very clear where the love story is going and seems predictable in a few places, but it finally  manages to end on a happy note tying in loose ends satisfactorily.

An engaging family entertainer.
