Movie Review: Aaryan
Nayana ( Shraddha Srinath) is a leading TV journalist on a news channel. One day during a live show, a stranger appears from the audience, shocking everyone by pulling a trigger on the star who is being interviewed. Even as cops are readying to enter the shooting floor, the stranger called Azhagar ( Selvaraghavan) reveals his plan which stuns everyone.
He announces that he will commit 5 murders and nobody can stop him. The next minute, he kills himself.
The shocking case is handed to super cop Arivudai Nambi ( Vishnu Vishal) who has to race against time to stop the murders.
Does he succeed? What is the reason for the serial killer Azhagar's actions? How can a dead man commit a crime?
The film is a racy, suspense-filled investigative thriller that captures your attention from the word go, and sustains your curiosity and interest till the end.
Director Praveen has taken an unusual plot and successfully executed it to keep the viewer guessing till the last.
Vishnu Vishal as the young cop is terrific in every frame. Be it his body language, his expressions, his lean, taut frame or his eyes which speak volumes, the actor delivers a most impressive and convincing performance. Though he plays a cop again, his performance is vastly different from his super hit Ratsasan, as is the story and feel of this film.
Selvaraghavan does a neat job and his presence is felt throughout the film thanks to the screenplay.
Shraddha Srinath as the strong, bold journo delivers a credible performance. Maanasa Choudhary as Nambi's ex wife is a refreshing presence in the film and the Azhagiyaley track makes for pleasant viewing.
The film is crisp with no lags and avoids frills and distractions, and is focussed on the plot, which works out well.
Ghibran's music elevates the film and is a big plus. His 2 melodious tracks of Im The Guy and Azhagiyaley are praiseworthy.
Aaryan is a racy, rivetting, edge-of-the-seat thriller, exploring an unusual serial killer angle, elevated with noteworthy performances and superb music.
