Movie Review : Teenz
A bunch of tweenage kids from privileged families, decide to bunk a day from thier posh school, sneaking out without anyone noticing. Their aim to go to a small village on a ghost hunt, near the granny's home of one of the children. They decide to go on an adventure to prove they are grown-up, but the adventure misfires.
As they reach the lonely area, one by one, strange things start happening. Their friends keep disappearing and eerie happenings scare them.
As they wander off further in search of the village, they run into an astrophycist (Parthiban) who reveals that all the happenings are due to the presence of aliens.
What happens next ?
The film moves from a simple kids day out to a sci fi film, a novel concept tried by director actor Parthiban.
The portions depicting the kids trauma though, seem a tad stretched, and it does require oodles of patience to watch them scream and run from pillar to post repetively. Also, it gets tough to keep up empathy for their situation, given the way they escape from school leaving a dozen parents and teachers in a tizzy over their disappearance.
The appearance of Parthiban as an astrophysicist stirs things up and the goings get interesting from them on though the CG work with the spaceship could have been better worked upon with a bit of detailing.
The movie though interesting in its concept doesnt really strike a chord, mostly because of the time spent on kids who seem inconsiderate, irresponsible and pretty much full of themselves for the most part, except for Ayyankaali. The presence of Yogi Babu seems mostly ornamental. The usual drunkard jokes that have become the norm seem overdone.
The sci -fi portions are well portrayed but better camerawork and crisper editing and less repetitive scenes would have added to take it up several notches.
