Movie Review: Nayanthara -Beyond The Fairytale

The documentary on Nayanthara dropped on Netflix from 18th November, on the star's birthday.

The film traces the journey of the actor,  from her early days in the industry right up to her wedding with film director Vignesh Shivan.

The making is chic with classy visuals and interviews with Nayanthara, her Mom and several film makers, a journalist  and co-actors who fill in details of her personal and professional side.

Nayan herself gives a peek into her early years, her relationship with her parents, the time in her life when she quit acting and how she bounced back.

The focus then shifts onto the love of her life and how she fell in love with and married Vignesh Shivan.

Though the making is slick with some great visuals and quite interesting, a little more detailing would have added more depth to the story. Nayan touches upon personal topics, but the pain of her breakup and hiatus from the industry could have been presented with a tad more depth to create the right connect.

The portions with Vignesh Shivan, captures few intentionally funny moments but the love story bits are just skimmed through by both,  without delving deep enough. Their love story angle being the mainstay of the film,  those parts hardly create much of an impact.

The wedding portions look spectacular with lovely visuals but again, look rushed, and  just on the surface.

Its at the mehndi function however, we get an actual feel of an emotional connect in the way its filmed and  presented. More such moments would have added more life to this documentary, as for the most part we see a gorgeous Nayan on a couch and talking to the camera  which though beautiful, gives a sort of  clinical feel.

Interesting nuggets about her wedding sari and the interiors of her home and the like, give a peek into Nayan's aesthetics choices and the stickler for perfection she is.

Overall, a watch worthy documentary that could have been perhaps better with more tad more depth.
