Movie Review: Sandakkari

Vetrikondan ( Vemal) joins a firm in London,  as assistant to CMO Maya (Shriya Saran) who is a terror as a strict disciplinarian in the organisation.

Vetri is a citizen of the the UK and his real reason for taking this job is to get finance for an app idea he has.

One day however, Maya loses her visa status and has to return to India indefinitely. She convinces Vetri to marry her so that she can get citizenship status.

However, a strict immigration officer smells the fakeness of their plan and tells them to prove him wrong. The duo are forced to return to India for a while.

In Vetri's native village, prentending to be his wife, Maya discovers he is rich not only financially but also with the love of doting parents and grandmother, a factor she lacks in life.

What happens next? Does his family find out the truth? Do Vetri and Maya return to their London dream or stay back in India, united as a real couple?

Director Madhesh returns with a good rom -com and  family drama with Sandakkari.

Shriya Saran and Vemal deliver top notch performances and their chemistry and fun vibes are what make the film work big time. From London to the village portions, the 2 actors are in their element, with witty remarks, constant fights and also shine in the comedy and emotional scenes.

Prabhu brings both humor and gravitas with his presence and its good to see  veterean actor KR Vijaya in an emotional key role.

The film has good production values and making,  pleasant visuals and songs and ample humor ( Sathyan in a key role) and a racy screenplay.

However, it feels a tad stretched in the second half and gives off  80's vibes in places.  A bit of trimming the length would have worked in favor of the film. Many loopholes in the storyline exist and situations seem contrived just to push the story forward. How Vemal became a UK citizen is never explained.

Overall, a light -hearted, clean family entertainer.
