Movie Review:The Dark Heaven
Pari ( Siddhu) is a cop assigned to a new posting in a mountain hamlet. He artives there with his wife Umayal ( Tharshika) and baby.
There he encounters stories of an ancient curse on an the men of the area, which comes into effect every few years. He investigates the disappearance of Joseph and Jessica which leads, him to Kani ( Ryithvika) who is the sister-in-law of Joseph who had lost her husband earlier
As the investigations proceed, mysterious mur
ders happen in the mountain town for which Pari is suspended. More woes are in store for him as his wife suddenly dies, supposedly by suicide.
With pressure pouring in, does Pari succeed on finding the killer? What is the mystery behind these killings?
The film is made on a grand canvas, with his visuals which help in setting the tone and tenor of the film. The mountain locations are well captured to add to the sense of mystery and intrigue.
The film begins on a mysterious note over various timelines, setting the tone of the film and raising the suspense factor though a tad confusing.
The film has a plethora of actors which takes some time getting used to.
Siddhu in his debur in the lead as a cop is aptly cast and delivers a convincing performance as the serious, thinking cop. His action scenes in the climax are noteworthy.
Tharshika in her screen debut delivers in a noteworthy performance. Riythvika has a meaty role in the film which she delivers with a neat, nuanced and measured performance. Hope to see more of these two actors more in lengthy roles.
Prabhu as the subordinate cop stands out for his act especially in the climax and is a good choice for the role, with the right physique and expressions.
The film begins in a way which builds up huge suspense and hints of a supernatural thriller with a plethora of senior actors, but the film seems to shift base soon into an investigative thriller track, which leaves one a tad confused. Perhaps a sequel is on the cards?
Overall a thrilling investigative mystery with a large ensemble cast, superb visuals, good making, and unexpected twists all along, making for a neat family entertainer.
