Movie Review : Mookuthi Amman 2

-

Sundar C returns with the franchise but with a different story.

Sakthi ( Nayanthara)an orphan, is a cop who lives with Mala ( Urvashi). Sakthi is troubled with nightmares which keep her up at night, involving a village called Mylanji.

Due to a turn of events in her life,  Sakthi gets transferred to Mylanji, remote village , where a, strange series of mysterious events happen, involving an evil force, Bhaira ( Regena Cassandra) and her love ( Duniya Vijay), who were her ancient enemies from 2000 years ago and are out to destroy her and unleash evil forces. As she gets, caught up in a whirlwind of events, Sakthi realises that she was actually Mookuthi Amman, the local deity who prorected the people.

Will Mookuthi Amman now rise again  to rescue the people from Bhaira and her evil forces in this fight between Good and Evil?

The film is a time travel fantasy devotional drama, mounted on a grand scale, in typical Sundar C style.

Nayanthara is the pivot around the story in the titular role, and she holds the fort splendidly, in a powerful portrayal as both the cop and Amman. Regal, and powerful as Amman, she looks beautiful in every frame.

Regina as Bhaira makes a formidable enemy and Regina bites into her meaty role with gusto. Her New Age get up is eye catching and adds an eclectic touch to the rooted story.

Yogi Babu (in a cameo) and Urvashi are part of the story but this time there is not much scope for humor and comedy is kept on the backburner by Sundar C, with more attention to action and the battle between good and evil.

The action blocks comprising the combat between Regena and Nayan are rivetting. The pre -climax and climax portions ( with 2 significant artistes in a cameo) are electrifying, set to Hip Hop Adhi's song and bgm.

There are sorcerors and their magic  and their greed for power, that are part of the the story as well.

The camerawork and music add to the flavor of the film.  The editing department could have reduced the length of a few of the fight sequences, for crisper viewing.

The scenes when Sakthi realises who she was,  are among the highlights of the film.

The film is a grandly made fantasy and with Nayanthara's mesmerising, stupendous screen presence and Regena's rivetting act, along with a grand ensemble cast, Mookuthi Amman 2 is a sound mass family commercial entertainer.
