Movie Review: Bayamariya Brammai
Kabilan is an author who is writing a book on a criminal Jagdish, who has killed dozens of people.
Jagdish takes him through his life of crime and the reasons behind his actions. He narrates that after his first murder, he is mentored by a man named Maran ( John Vijay), whom he later kills.
Why does Jagdish kill each of his victims? As Kabilan tries to get into the skin of his subject, what secrets are unravelled?
The film seeks to examine the choices one makes in life which can change the path of one's life and lead to a bitter end.
The Bgm of the film by music director K with its orchestra stands out as different from the usual sounds one hears in such thrillers. The camera work mostly in the dark seems to have done its best to portray the dark mood of the film.
The screenplay however is such that it requires careful concentration to keep track of what's happening on screen. The slow pace, with dialogue heavy scenes between Kapilan and Jagdish seem a tad theatrical in nature and seem too lengthy to retain ones attention.
The method of getting different actors to play the parts of Jagdish and Maran through different chapters of the book seems a novel one,indicating how each reader actually gets so involved as to imagine himself within the story. But figuring this out is not easy .
What works in the filns favour is the way the director has managed to keep the suspense going till the end.
Also, all the actors have done a good job.
However, the several murder scenes are quite gruesome to watch.
The entire construct of the scenes and the film seems an attempt to try something new but figuring it all out and having the patience to do so may not be everyone's cup of tea.
