Movie Review: Right

Inside a police station, police writer Chellamuthu is caught in a harrowing situation, when they discover that the chair he is sitting on in  has a bomb attached  to it.  Opening a stolen laptop lands him in trouble, as a blackmailing hacker has held everyone in the station as hostages.

Nobody can leave the station, as, if they do so,  bombs will be remotely set off at all exits.

The blackmailer tells the cops to find a case where a person had been wrongfully accused and orders them to do justice within half an hour.

As the investigation proceeds under cop Menaka ( Akshara Reddy), the finger points in the unexpected direction of  Sakthivel Pandian (Arun Pandian), a man who came to the station to report his son Jai (Aditya Shivakumar) as missing.

Who is Pandian? Is he really the culprit? How is he linked to the blackmailer holding the cops as hostage? Why is Jai missing?

The film deals with the core issue of corruption, police apathy, their nexus with criminals and how lack of punishment to well connected criminals can lead to a plethora of crimes that ultimately cause havoc in the life of the common man.

The racy, suspenseful  screenplay is interspersed with comic interludes by a small time criminal, while the serious issues are addressed by Natty Natraj ( in a cameo of sorts), Vinothini, and Arun Pandian.  All the actors deliver the goods to lend credibility to their roles.

Debutant Aditya Shivakumar as Jai shines as the innocent college boy while (Veeram child actor) Yuvina as his girlfriend caught up in a bad situation impresses with her innocent charm and acting chops. The duo deliver a neat, refreshing chemistry.

Akshara Reddy, of Bigg Boss 5 fame, p with her dignified stature and commanding demeanour, plays the diligent cop to perfection, albeit we only get to see the serious side of the actor all through.

The story is mostly filmed inside the police station which may get tedious to watch,  but the constant twists and surprises manage to keep one adequately engaged. However,  the way a judge is brought in -house and a full wooden  court paraphenalia is set up, and investigations  carried out at breakneck speed as the bomb ticks, seems quite a stretch. Minor aspects draw attention like for example, why is there  a nurse with cascading locks when nurses usually have their hair neatly tied back for professional reasons? Or how are the cops planning strategy when the hacker can hear eveything they say? There seem to be several logical loopholes, but the racy screenplay and the emotional message delivered serves to override them.

The emotional scenes in the movie are effective but the scenes in the forest are not for the faint -hearted.

Overall, a movie which tries to justify its title and leaves the audience to decide what's really Right with a  thrilling screenplay based on a uniquely handled premise.
