Movie Review: Vishwanath And Sons
A super rich business tycoon Sanjay Vishwanath ( Suriya) lives with his mom Nirmala ( Radhika Sarathkumar) who wants him to get married and raise a family.
But the 43 year old Sanjay is against marriage, as his father abandoning his mom for another woman (Raveena Tandon) during Sanjay's teen years, left him disillusioned about marriage.
One day, yo appease his ageing mother, he decides to get a baby via surrogacy from the USA. Though his mother is upset over this move of avoiding marriage, she soon succumbs to the charm of her baby grandson.
But when he falls ill and requires a surgery which needs the presence of his biological mother, Suriya brings home the surrogate mom Maddy ( Mamitha Baiju) from the US.
Slowly, the young Maddy falls in love with Sanjay, who spurns her all the more so because of the 20 year age gap between them.
What happens to their relationship? Does Sanjay give up his way of thinking? Does Maddy's love win?
Director Venky Atluri has crafted an interesting plot and beautifully woven a screenplay which keeps you engaged and invested in the characters, their emotions and reactions to changing circumstances.
The film pivots around the world of Suriya and Radhika in the beginning and their strong relationship is highlighted through warm and cute moments, laced with humor. Radhika shines in her role and she owns it in a way that is impossible to imagine anyone wise else in that role. She brings grace,regality and dignity to her role and the deep love for her son. Later when Mamitha Baiju enters the scene, the relationship between her and Mamitha are delightful to watch as their relationship evolves with time.
Suriya is simple fantastic as Sanjay Vishwanath in easily among his solid roles to date. Director Atluri brings back to screen the charming side of the star-actor, which will be enjoyed not just by his fans but also the ladies and family audiences. He easily aces the emotional scenes with his mom and later the delicate relationship with Mamitha, in several scenes which stand out. The daily tiffs, the differences in their points of views, their outlook to life and the joint bonding with the cute baby are well brought out right till the climax. Mamitha is a fireball of energy and plays the vivacious, layered character with panache and a deep understanding. The delicate balance of their roles are superbly handled by Suriya and Mamitha, leaving never a dull moment on screen. Suriya deserves kudos for attempting a different role maintaning a finely tuned balance to it.
GV Prakash's bgm is a huge support and his peppy melodious songs are attractively filmed as well and a highlight of the film. Nimish Ravi's excellent camerawork is a highlight exploring a wonderful palette of suitable colors, subtle tones which elevate the film. The superb choice of locations and sets designs that take you right into the exotic lives of the characters deserve kudos.
On the flip side, a few sentiments expressed by characters may not be everyone's cup of tea.
However, overall the film is a neat, well- made engaging, thoroughly entertaining, fun yet emotional commercial watch for family audiences and another blockbuster loading for Suriya.
