Movie Review : Pookie

Kailash ( Ajay Dhishan) and Aazhi ( RK Dhanusha) have been in a relationship for 6 years, when one fine evening, it all comes to an end when a heated argument in a car, leads to a horrific face-off and ugly break up in public.

The showdown haunts the duo  everywhere they go as the fight becomes viral on social media, disrupting their chances at finding love again.

As the duo try to forget the past and move on,  things only seem to get tougher for them. What happens to the ex lovers? Do they  ever find peace and love again?

The film starts off with a gripping first 15 minutes, grabs your attention and keeps you hooked. Though the movie is about love in the age of Gen Z, it makes for an interesting watch for all ages,  as it gives you a peek into the travails of finding love in the age of short attention spans, and shallow attractions all the way.

The film is racy and trendy in both its subject and making and to this end director Ganesh Chandra deserves credit.

RK Dhanusha and Ajay Dhishan are superb, with their natural acting and crackling chemistry. The realistic and  earnest performances of both actors shine on the screen, aided by some well written dialogues (which thankfully  dont follow the usual template). But since the film is about break ups we dont get to see them together much on screen, which is a pity.

Pleasant locations, a solid supporting cast (Aditya Kathir, Vivek Prasanna, Sathya SK,Pandiaraj, Sunil and others) and situations that reflect lives  of  modern day middle class youth, dashes of humor, interesting conflict, s and heaps of emotion, intersperse the proceedings  enough to keep you entertained

On the flip side, the film seems to move a rad too fast, without giving the viewer breathing time to absorb the emotions of its leads. Lakshmi Manchu cast in a suitable role, could have been used better.

A highlight of the film is Vijay Antony's presence, voice and different look in the peppy numbers. The camera team deserves kudos for excellent and the film also display high production values in its making. The screenplay is fast-paced.

Overall, Pookie is an entertaininf watch for both youth and family audiences.
